integra gsr? probably can get it wayyy under 10k. I don't know why some say civics are fun to drive, I've driven the 2004 civic. It was weak sauce. Civics are probably fun to tune.

NB Miata ('99 to '05)...should be able to find a good example in your price range since the NCs just came out and owners are trading up...

hey i'm resurrecting this thread... why didn't anyone suggest a used RX-7? I see they can be had for less than 10k if I look around. Are these vehicles as good as they say it is (fun to drive, powerful etc.)? What kinda mileage do they get (93-95 models)? Sounds like an awesome car to me.

also is autotrader the best source to find used cars or is there somewhere... better? I'm noticing that autotrader is innundated with scam sales.

I haven't heard of any reliability issues. Then again, I haven't considered this car till now. That's why I'm asking around to people who know... this car have any specific problems?

You can relax. The only part of the car that isn't reliable is the engine. Just change it at every oil change and you'll be fine...

Unless they are VERY fastidiously maintained, new rotary engine every 60k is about the norm. Not to mention, finding a used one in passable shape will be $$$$$$$. Finding a mechanic who knows his way around one is next to impossible, parts are hard to find and very expensive...etc.

As ViperGTS said, money pit. Sweet car otherwise.

EDIT: fixed quoted poster

Ha ha. Point taken. How bout Mid 90's stock supras? I hear they're pretty powerful and reliable? sry for the million questions guys but I don't have much experience with mid-late 90's sport cars. So far I've only looked at post 2000 vehicles and i'm just now looking further back for a good deal on an awesome car.

The nice reliable ones aren't likely to be for sale.

Sure they are...for $30k and up (if you want a turbo)...

NAs with 250,000 miles on them can MAYBE be had for $10k or so...

hmm then there's certainly something fishy about those sub 10k 98 supras with <50k miles on autotrader. Weird thing is they have clear VIN titles. Damn... damn.. damn. Back to the drawing board.

Don't get me wrong - you may find a legit deal if you look hard enough (and jump on it before everyone else sees it). I don't know what the market in your area is like. Here in NY, they are very expensive.

But considering that 1998 was the last year they made the Supra (making it the most desirable year in general) and the fact that they are advertised with less than 50k miles, and for less than $10k...to say that I'd be more than a little suspicious would be a HUGE understatement.

Scams, I asked about one or two, they all happen to have owners overseas. . .

You can easily find 99-00 Civic Si for around $10K.

Good on gas, sporty, quick, sharp looking, highly dependable, good resale value...what else can you ask for ??
I had one and I loved it.

BTW......most likely to get stolen too.

yeah I can't find a civvie SI for under 10k anywhere. Everyone's looking for 11-12k. One more car I thought of. My friend just recently purchased a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE. I rode with him in it and it's got great acceleration (at least compared to the other cars i've driven). It isn't quite as small and nimble as I prefer but it's def. got plenty of power. Anyone have opinions on this vehicle? It seems I can find some with around 70-80k miles for about 10k

Maxima would be a good choice. Practical, reasonably fun to drive. The VQ is solid.

Tried to talk the g/f into one when she was car shopping but they were too big for her.
