It's ok to just in small amounts on level ground especially while parking. But using the clutch to inch forward in a traffic jam or stop from rolling on a hill... that's abusive.

If you're paranoid about it like me you'll be shifting into neutral lots and avoiding it, but otherwise keep it to slow manuveurs only.

Consider that the friction material on a clutch is much thinner than a brake pad before it hits rivets...

Got another question. When doing an uphill start, is it okay to use the clutch (released about halfway) to hold the car for the amount of time it takes to get from the brake pedal to the accelerator? Or does even that cause excessive wear?

I put more wear on my clutch in one hard launch than you'd probably put in a dozen scenarios that you mentioned..it'll be fine.

I've got another question...

My car when in second gear often has the bucking feeling, a little similar to the feeling I get when close to stalling but not so severe. I havn't tried a lot of different RPMs, but I'm normally in 1000-2000 when it happens, and those revs should be pretty normal for any gear, right? It happens both when I'm starting to step on the gas and and when I lift my foot off the gas, most prominent in big changes in the amount the gas pedal is pressed. First gear has the same feeling but much more pronounced, but I understand that it's only for getting the car rolling. Is second gear just this way as well or am I doing something wrong?

By the way, thanks everyone for answering my questions and helping me out.

1000rpm is too low in 2nd gear unless its a monster motor
yes, the car will 'buckle' if you try to pulse the gas pedal ... more noticeably at lower speeds.. thats why you ease on the gas pedal.. never pop it on or off

Sounds like you're shifting into 2nd too early... don't be afraid to let the engine wind a little. You should be shifting into 2nd at say, 3500RPM.

Make slow, but precise movements.

It just takes practice. In general, any bucking or laggy feeling.. means you're doing something wrong. It should be smooth and effortless.
