yact: TPS error code

'02 nissan sentra spec v

To make a long story short--

car sorta went into 'limp mode' while driving-- everything worked - but the gas pedal stopped responding. turned off car, inspected it, restarted-- everything worked fine. Service engine light came on. Car made it the 5 miles back home with no incedent.

checked the error codes-- 2135 TPS error (throttle position sensor)

checked on theVboard.com -- and while not a 'common' problem, found other incedents exactly like what i described, most of which where either due to a loose wire on the TPS or ECU or faulty accelerator assembly.

Car goes into dealership on thursday to be looked at (still under warranty)--- but in the meantime, what can i do. I'd like to still be able to drive my car around, but won't if there is a risk of damaging anything.

what and where is the TPS? would i be able to inspect to see if anything looks out of whack?

hmm i thought you quit the forums? are you back now?

On most cars the TPS is attached to the throttle plate. However, as your car has an electronic throttle I'm not sure where it would be located. I'm guess it'd still be in the same place tho. Follow the tube coming from the air cleaner (probably plastic) until it gets to metal. Chances are the TPS is right around there. Should have 3 wires coming off of it.

you can take rallispec out of ATOT, but u can never take ATOT out of rallispec

thanks-- out of curiousity-- anything in particular i should look for-- dirt on the sensor, loose wire, etc..

You can look for loose wires otherwise there's not much you can do. The only way to really test a TPS is to measure the voltage its outputting and unless you have the specs/etc. then you're not going to get much out of it. That, and I don't know if you can just replace the TPS or if you have to get a whole assembly. For example, a lot of Hondas the TPS isn't replaceable by itself; you have to replace the entire throttle body and that's a $300 part. (the throttle being the plate that controls the amount of air coming into the engine).

BTW: The TPS tells the engine how far the throttle is open.
