I have no problem with people driving autos, but when people bust out with the "I drive in traffic so I can't drive a stick" I get a little peturbed. 😉

You should really get your little perturbed looked at 🙂

But it's not "can't" drive it as much as it's "Don't want to."
Unwilling, not incapable.

Exactly. Lazy, not stupid. 🙂

I found a '99 Maxima SE with a 5-speed! 😀 The only thing is it's an hour drive away 🙁 I really need to get over there this week so I can see it, they better not sell it.

Awesome. I'm looking for the same exact thing myself. Manual maximas are hard to come by, but I think it's worth it. Just FYI, the GLE doesn't have manual as an option IIRC. It's suspension is also less stiff than the SE.

Nobody said it was hard, but it may be more trouble than it's worth. Big difference. It's easy to do, but some people don't feel like doing it. Different strokes for different folks. I guess you might call them lazy, but lets face it - eliminating unnecessary work/motion is hardly laziness. I COULD get lawnmower that's not self-propelled. Does that mean I'm lazy if I get one that IS?

Gotta love transmission "elitists." I drive a stick, btw. I hate auto, but come on....not everybody wants to drive a stickshift.

I think there is truth to that, especially if you have a stiff clutch. I know in the 240, it would get tiring after driving in heavy highway traffic for a while (more of a parking lot than a highway...The Don Valley Parkway should be called the Don Valley Parkinglot!!). I know my dad got tired of it (I have a feeling he's happy he totalled the 240SX just to get out of the 5-spd driving).

However if you have cars with very light clutches, its not tiring at all. If you guys ever goto India or Africa, try to drive their economy cars (most only come in 5-spd) and they are soooo easy to drive..that you'd be stupid if you couldn't. The clutch is almost featherweight and very smooth. Of course its designed for low-speed driving in a high density area (read: crazy traffic). I know in India, 95% of the cars are manual. Only the rich or the disabled can afford auto (since it only comes in expensive cars like the Sonata/Benz/Accord/Camry). And for the disabled, they have special auto tranny kits which are retrofited into the smaller and cheaper cars. I had a ride in a automatic Maruti 800, that 800 stands for the engine displacement. That's right...a 800cc carbed engine (0.8L) making all of 40-50hp mated to an auto tranny. Horribly slow...if that even. The lady driving it only had one hand so thats why itwas auto.

But ya..back to original point, if you have a nice and light clutch its ok, but if you ahve a stiff one...it gets tiring.
