YACT: To stick or not to stick?

I'm in the market for a new(used) car. I really had my heart set on a manual 4th generation Maxima, but in the past month that I've been scanning online car listings I've seen about 5 Maximas with manual transmition. Is getting a stick worth it that much? I really want to get a manual, but I really really want a car. My price range is in upwards of 9 grand so are there any other cars that would be good in that range? I'm looking for something fun to drive and with more luxury than a Honda Civic.

LOL. What a funny coincidence. I'm looking for a cooking medium with less fat than lard. I think if I search far and wide I might be able to come up with SOMETHING....

😉

ANyway, if you drive in a lot of traffic, stickshift can be more trouble than it's worth. Otherwise, you can get them a little cheaper and you may like it.

I don't drive in a lot of traffic.

Stick. Traffic or not. Go with a manual. Keeps your from doing crap you shouldnt be doing while driving. Plus your left leg will get bigger. 😀

There's a BIG difference in performance between an auto Maxima and a 5-spd Maxima (both being 4th gens). The 5-spd Maxima is not only faster, but it FEELS a whole lot faster as well. In the 1/4mi, the 5-spd is ususally 0.8s faster than the auto. The gearing is different and makes the car feel totally different. Ask Skoorb about the performanace of his 5-spd Maxima..

I'd be more likely to do "crap I shouldn't" when I'm driving standard. 😛

Yeah, but Skoorb's got NAWZ! 😀

What's the difference between the GXE, SE and GLE trim levels in the 4th generation Maxima? Does the GLE use the same suspension as the SE?

Dude, I drive in Traffic every day - I'm a pizza delivery driver. I spend about 40 hours a week in my vehicle, and I find nothing hard about driving a stick. I've come to the conclusion that you either have to be inexperienced at driving a stick, or fvcking lazy to say that driving one is hard because you have to "drive in traffic"

I believe the GLE has a softer suspension.

I vote for "fvcking lazy" 😀

Nobody said it was hard, but it may be more trouble than it's worth. Big difference. It's easy to do, but some people don't feel like doing it. Different strokes for different folks. I guess you might call them lazy, but lets face it - eliminating unnecessary work/motion is hardly laziness.

I COULD get lawnmower that's not self-propelled. Does that mean I'm lazy if I get one that IS?

Gotta love transmission "elitists." I drive a stick, btw. I hate auto, but come on....not everybody wants to drive a stickshift.

I have no problem with people driving autos, but when people bust out with the "I drive in traffic so I can't drive a stick" I get a little peturbed. 😉

I stick with my opinion... and that's all it is. But if you get a sportscar like a corvette in auto because you're gonna be "driving in traffic" that's when i go 😕

You should really get your little perturbed looked at 🙂

But it's not "can't" drive it as much as it's "Don't want to."
Unwilling, not incapable.
