I picked up a carburetor today to replace the stock one in my truck that's about ready to die. What things do I need to do to ensure complete success? The truck is an '83 Datsun 720 pickup, with a hot water choke. Do I really need to drain the radiator, or no? Etc, etc

Thanks in advance.

I never saw or heard of a Hot Water choke.
Thee is no need to drain the water just unhook the linkage and be sure that you mark the vacuum hoses so you get tem back on the same ports on the new carb.

I could be wrong on the hot water choke, but that's what the aftermarket manuals said it has. And I'll be sure to mark the vacuum hoses so I can't screw that up. Garrett

Is that a hot water choke that clips one of the heater hoses to the side of the choke housing? I had one of those on an old fomoco carb off an early 60's ford. Quite simple... no need to drain the radiator if it is that style. Make sure you also have new gaskets! Vacuum leaks are a serious pain and will cause you much grief. And as stated above... mark your vacuum lines!!! Bigtime headache figuring those things out. You also might want to change your fuel filter while you're at it. Also make sure your float bowls are adjusted according to the manual. Good luck!
