Even though your choices are in two completely different classes, and aren't really directly comparable to each other.
Agreed, why are you comparing two very different cars?Originally posted by: MercenaryForHire
High-revving small FWD coupe vs midsized AWD sedan?
Edit - 2.5i needs moar turbo, forgot that.

I don't get this myth about FWD in snow.
Maybe because I always had a FWD but to be honest I doubt it will offer anything like a true AWD vehicle. If the two front wheels start spinning or even one, what are you left with? Not much.
Everybody who I've talked too love the handling of a Subaru in all weather climates and conditions.

WTF? Isn't the Legacy like $5k more than the Si? Would a better comparison be Civic Si vs. Impreza or WRX?

Legacy, hands down. If you're going to be in a Hawn-duh, make it a motorcycle. The cars are for teenagers and college gearheads. Subaru's are for adults.
Because it's not cool to get >40mpg once you're an "Adult"?

Naah. That wasn't really my angle - and I apologize if it came off that harsh. It's not a cosmetics or a culture thing.. it's more the fact that around here you can't stand still for a few minutes without counting a Civic from pretty much every color in their lineup - but a Legacy or WRX is pretty damn rare.
To me, there are tons of qualities that I look for in a vehicle. Sometimes outside cosmetics, sometimes comfort, build quality, and luxury. I find the biggest satisfaction from having a rather unique car - call me a generation Y attention-seeker, but the fact is when someone does a genuine double-take to see what I'm driving rather than thinking, "Oh, another Civic/Focus/Cobalt/whathaveyou" I get the most satisfaction from that.
On that note, something like an Acura or a Legacy would be far more ideal to me. I would quite simply not purchase a Civic - and if given one I would most likely sell it immediately and buy something else. It's simply my preference and opinion, and I'm not saying there is anything wrong if you disagree or have your own.

Civic Si Base MSRP: $21,090.00
Legacy 2.5i Base MSRP: $20,495.00
for the most part they're similarly equiped -- one side note though - the Si comes with stability and traction control. (neither are available on the legacy)
i'm willing to bet that thier is also more haggling room on the subaru than on the civic... so you could probably save a few grand by going with the legacy over the civic.

You should try driving a car like mine. I have a 1997 Lincoln Town Car Cartier, and I'm a 21 year old kid living on Rice U campus. It's the only one in the lot. There are maybe a couple crown vics out there, but aside from the trucks and SUVs, I've got the biggest car. It's easy to find, because it's about a foot and a half longer than the striped spots, so it's nose or tail will always be sticking out a bit.
The other upshot is that the ride is great, it's full of luxury toys, has decent kick for a car of it's size, and is cheap to keep on the road. And I guess most importantly for a college kid is you can pack half of campus into it to go somewhere.
