AWD is nice to have --- and thier have been times when i've been very glad to have it.... but a FWD car with snow tires is more than capable enough to handle most situations.

Agreed. The WRX is more in the Civic Si's class than the Legacy is. Something like the Mazda6 is comparable to the Legacy.

I don't really like the Legacy non-GT's, so I wouldn't get that. Then again, the Civic Si's are pretty docile and weak as far as torque go. I am looking at a Mazdaspeed3 as my next car, but that might be too boy-racerish for you.

EDIT: The Civic Si will ride like crap in the snow compared to an AWD sedan. They both come with all-season tires, standard. You can upgrade to summer performance tires for $200 with the Si, not sure about the Legacy.

Btw, Izusanga, the STi and Legacy are two different worlds. One's a boy racer and the other's a sophisticated, calm family sedan. :p

I would compare WRX vs. Civic Si but the problem is that the base WRX (not base Impreza) is around $24k where the Civic Si is $21k and the Legacy is $20k, I can't afford the Legacy GT at this point :(

Agreed, why are you comparing two very different cars?

Same price point.

I'm voting for Si. FWD is also good for snow. And if AWD is a must...then just get the base Impreza?!

I don't get this myth about FWD in snow.

Maybe because I always had a FWD but to be honest I doubt it will offer anything like a true AWD vehicle. If the two front wheels start spinning or even one, what are you left with? Not much.

Everybody who I've talked too love the handling of a Subaru in all weather climates and conditions.

tires make a huge difference -- -talk to the some STi owners -- the summer tires that come on that car leave it helpless in the snow....

WTF? Isn't the Legacy like $5k more than the Si? Would a better comparison be Civic Si vs. Impreza or WRX?

Civic Si Base MSRP: $21,090.00
Legacy 2.5i Base MSRP: $20,495.00
for the most part they're similarly equiped -- one side note though - the Si comes with stability and traction control. (neither are available on the legacy)

i'm willing to bet that thier is also more haggling room on the subaru than on the civic... so you could probably save a few grand by going with the legacy over the civic.

i'm really not sure why you're comparing these two cars... i would think you'd be comparing slightly used WRX's with Si's. the base model legacy is just really not that sporty.

IMO the Legacy looks boring while the new Si with aero package looks awsome. The thing is there are so many of them that the new Civic will also start looking boring after a while.

The civic SI has significantly more power and less weight than a legacy, so it's going to be much faster. All those people complaining about its lack of torque need to read up on the definition of torque and horsepower before they start talking like they know something. Horsepower is what matters.

The Civic will get better mileage too. I'd say get the Civic unless you really need the extra space.

How about a Mazda Speed 6 AWD? It will run you about 26-28 grand and it's flys like the damn wind.

Legacy, hands down. If you're going to be in a Hawn-duh, make it a motorcycle. The cars are for teenagers and college gearheads. Subaru's are for adults.

Because it's not cool to get >40mpg once you're an "Adult"?

Naah. That wasn't really my angle - and I apologize if it came off that harsh. It's not a cosmetics or a culture thing.. it's more the fact that around here you can't stand still for a few minutes without counting a Civic from pretty much every color in their lineup - but a Legacy or WRX is pretty damn rare.

To me, there are tons of qualities that I look for in a vehicle. Sometimes outside cosmetics, sometimes comfort, build quality, and luxury. I find the biggest satisfaction from having a rather unique car - call me a generation Y attention-seeker, but the fact is when someone does a genuine double-take to see what I'm driving rather than thinking, "Oh, another Civic/Focus/Cobalt/whathaveyou" I get the most satisfaction from that.

On that note, something like an Acura or a Legacy would be far more ideal to me. I would quite simply not purchase a Civic - and if given one I would most likely sell it immediately and buy something else. It's simply my preference and opinion, and I'm not saying there is anything wrong if you disagree or have your own.

You should try driving a car like mine. I have a 1997 Lincoln Town Car Cartier, and I'm a 21 year old kid living on Rice U campus. It's the only one in the lot. There are maybe a couple crown vics out there, but aside from the trucks and SUVs, I've got the biggest car. It's easy to find, because it's about a foot and a half longer than the striped spots, so it's nose or tail will always be sticking out a bit.

The other upshot is that the ride is great, it's full of luxury toys, has decent kick for a car of it's size, and is cheap to keep on the road. And I guess most importantly for a college kid is you can pack half of campus into it to go somewhere.

LOL, a Legacy is sure as hell an attention getter. LMFAO.

"OHHH, you drive a Legacy?!"

LOL, happy?

Noone buy Civic for luxury. People buy civic for reliable, gas saving commuter car. And the Civic Si is a commuter that you can take it to back country road and have some fun with. Hell, I would take a Si to track day but sure as hell won't do with a Legacy.

And I sure as hell don't want to get a Legacy over a Si just because I want to stand out. That's just SILLY. For $20k, a RED MUSTANG would've scream hell lot more "look at me" than a Legacy. Of course, being an attention getter isn't as childish as being a civic boy racer...:D

And I'd still pick your car over any other car..
