Um, you think a VW is on par with a BMW??? That's a laugh. I certainly wouldn't put a Passat above a Maxima or a Camry in a comparo. I think you got the confused part right though...you certainly are confused.

What I think, and what others got, is that a prior comparison made between the two was inappropriate. I pointed this out by making an equally inapplicable one between BMW and the Camry. And yes, the Camry is not really in the same league as my car. Sorry, but I have driven both and they are not.
2002 Golf GLS TDI
The warranty expired 1,500km ago. The current problem list includes:
- faulty window seal on drivers door.
- soon to be faulty window seal on passenger door.
- sunroof incorrectly aligned from the factory.
- sunroof glass needs replacement as faulty alignment put large scoremarks in the glass.
- instrument cluster to be replaced because of LOUD rattling from within
- defective remote control/key fob
- engineering fault causes wheel well liners to be broken by ice chunks in winter (replaced one already)
- smokey starts in the morning because of an unknown problem that the dealer refuses to deal with (I think it's timing related but the dealer insists it's within spec )
- coolant light comes on every now and then even though coolant level/quality is fine (air in the system?)
Don't get me wrong, the car drives like a dream and is a real pleasure to drive. I would buy another VW in a second, providing they get these annoying quality control issues sorted out. The road feel when you're behind the wheel is a typical German experience, and the interior is second to none in it's class.
I'll keep an eye on the MK V's, but until they get those QA issues sorted out... VW will not be on my shopping list.

actually ive noticed that with a lot of new German cars. They always bulbs aren't working. Seen this trend on BMWs, Benz, and VAG cars.

Of course the Camry isn't in the same league as the Passat. You can actually depend on the Camry to NOT have electrical gremlins or expensive repairs in a few years.
Every time I think of VW, I can't help but think of poor n8Magic who long sang VW's praises until his Golf started falling apart 😉

For whatever reason you have a dislike of VWs. I really have no problems with your prejudice in this manner, however, the V6 Passats aren't at the top of the list for problems nor at the bottom. Does reliability make a "class"? Well, then Nissan is definitely in a "higher" one than Mercedes. That concept, however, is not marketable

I can't agree any more... I can assure you, Honda, Nissan, well sh!t, even Hyundai is more reliable than a Ferrari. Well, would you rather drive a Ferrari or a Hyundai?

If I had enough $$ for a Ferrari then relability wouldn't really matter to me now would it? And you can't really compare a Ferrari to Nissan/Honda/etc.. because Ferrari's don't get 20k miles on them every year.
And quite frankly if I did have the $$, i'd never buy a new Benz. The best M-B cars were made before 1993.

* NOTE: Anyone that says "I told you so." will go on my hit list. You could be next.
Coupled with VW's aging product line, sagging sales, and QC issues:

For whatever reason you have a dislike of VWs. I really have no problems with your prejudice in this manner, however, the V6 Passats aren't at the top of the list for problems nor at the bottom. Does reliability make a "class"? Well, then Nissan is definitely in a "higher" one than Mercedes. That concept, however, is not marketable
OWNED!
If I had money coming out my ass, I'd get a nice limo with a chauffer 🙂
WHAT? And deny yourself the pleasure of driving??
NEVER!

So big fvcking deal. You've never owned an Audi or a VW, so your magazine links mean jacksh!t.
What does me not owning an Audi/VW have to do with quantifiable evidence on reliability and reports from VW itself about the outlook of its sales/profit performance based on its aging product line?
I've already discussed this in one of your prior hatefests about VW, and I agreed their aging factories and product line needed to go. I don't, however, agree with you about the number of problems that "people" have.

There is my issue right there. JD power gives them a 2/5 overall whereas the actual people BUYING VW give it a 8.9/10

JD Power has a much larger sample pool than the 148 people that reviewed the car on Edmunds.

What Edmunds.com Says
This is our favorite midsize car -- in both sedan and wagon form. Don't make your vehicle choice without driving one.
Pros
Fun to drive, excellent value in GL or GLS trim, roomy interior with upscale feel, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons
Expensive upper-level models, can't get AWD on GLS, less rear-seat room than Camry or Altima, some confusing interior controls.

Wow, I had never seen that before. So JDPower is saying that the car that defined the midsize class, in terms of styling and interior quality, the car that most singlehandedly influenced the designs of the new Accord, Altima, TSX, etc, the car that every other magazine raves about, is only fit to be among "the rest"??? There goes JD Power's credibility! Edmunds rating on this same page completely contradicts the JDPower rating:

Seriously, all reliability aside (because the JDPower rating is initial quality), where the hell did they come up with this? All of the reviews I've read in Car and Driver, Road and Track, Motorweek, Edmunds, etc. have ALL raved about the styling, fit and finish, quality feel, and beautiful interior of the Passat. A majority of people on this board have said that the Passat is an awesome car (excluding the perceived reliability problems). I've read hundreds of posts on Vortex and ClubB5 about why people bought their Passats... because it felt like a Mercedes or Audi for slightly more than a Honda price. Where the hell does JDPower come up with their ratings?
