YACT: Should I do a BMW European Delivery?

I'm going on a business trip to Europe for pretty much all of March. I'll be taking a week off after we're done at the client site and I'm thinking about doing a European Delivery of a E90 330.

I really love the car, but I'm a consultant and the nature of my job is that I'm out of town at least monday to thurs, many times I come back fri afternoon.

I've worked it out and with the options I want, it comes out to something like $36,510.
330 + premium package + navigation + metallic paint + comfort access. Picking it up in europe basically means I get it for less than a 325 with the same options.

Assuming paying for the car isn't a concern, would it be worth it in your opinnion considering my situation.

That's including delivery? If so, hell yeah!

yes that includes shipping to the US. It doesn't include destination/handling (695), or TTL

there are forums dedicated to this.

i kno, i read bimmerfest and e90fantatics

the question isn't one of whether european delivery is worth it. but rather if its worth it for me to buy a car that I would only drive bascially on the weekends.

My dad did a delivery of a 318i (his first BMW, back in the early 80's, I believe) @ the Germany factory, and he said it was a great experience. Took you on a factory tour and everything. He says it's very recommended.

wait... why is it cheaper to pick it up in europe and then ship it here than it is to get it here?

have you included travel and living costs?

my company is paying for the airfare. I have an assload of hotel points to cover my 1 week vacation. only thing I would need to pay for is the train from zurich to munich, gas and food. I'd get to drive it around europe for a week and have a nice vacation. The only things holding me back at this point are that I woudl only use the car during the weekends and its rumored that BMW will announce a 328/335 lineup at the geneva car show in march. I'd be pissed to be picking up a 330 when the 335 just got announced

You can buy any just about any european car in europe for cheaper than here and ship it back. Same with US cars here for europeans. A corvette is like $80k in sweden. Has to do with tariffs and such I guess.

The 335 will be available (at least in the UK) in Fall 2006. If you can wait that long and want the extra power, then by all means wait, but thats a good 9-11 months.

Don't you have to pay the tariff yourself if you bring it into the country yourself?

i'd guess a 328 is the 3 liter detuned, as it is in the 330. (a friend of mine initially passed over the 325, thinking it was the same somewhat unreliable engine as the old 325 from the mid 90s. he was set straight though, and absolutely loves the car)

the 325 is a great value, but when you factor in the costs of adding xenon, logic 7 and the more expensive premium package it gets real close and in the end you're still driving a 325 vs a 330, the stock rims on the 325 also leave something to be desired.

No. Just the taxes on the purchase price. IIRC the car companies get the tariff break because they are importing a "used" car instead of a new one. My parents did european delivery in 1999 on a volvo.
