no. insurance on the S2000 is about on-par with the Accord. in other words, it's cheap. compared to something like a WRX, it's DIRT cheap. i cross-shopped my accord with the S2000 and insurance was something i looked into.

as for the S2000 as a daily driver? well, if you literally never carry ANYTHING, and you never carry people, then sure. but otherwise, i think you may need to face the fact that this cannot be your only car. however, you might consider buying it in addition to a used Civic hatchback or something else that you could get cheap and use when you need extra space or seats, and still drive the S2000 most of the time.

i eventually decided that although the S2000 is amazing and easily as fun or more so than a 911 convertible, it was a poor financial decision for me to buy a weekend car at this point in my life. but one day there will be one in my driveway! one day!

That's strange thomsbrain. I have an s2000 and the insurance on it is more than an M3 that I'm currently lookinig at. I'm paying close to 2200 a year.

Anyhow do you reallly want this car as a 17 year old? Hmm...that's a tough choice. I will say this though....it's Honda reliability through and through. It's sure not practical but if you dont own a family and you're going off to college...I can't imagine you needed 4 doors anyways. Call me crazy but I've always been of the mentality that you only live once. If you enjoy it, and you can afford it, I'd do it.

www.s2ki.com <---The best s2000 website around. I'm jonnybravo on there.

gas mileage LOL. Just because they are 4 bangers don't expect good gas mileage. The GTO gas guzzler gets better gas mileage on the highway by 4mpg then a s2000 which gets the same as a mustang GT. Around the city the s2000 does manage to get 3mpg better then the GTO and 2mpg better then a mustang gt though. Its in the gearing. You have to gear the hell out of those 4 bangers to get any performance so they turn some serious RPMs on the highway. I drive a miata btw and get 25mpg average and turn 4k rpms at 75mph. I have no problem driving it daily and can get a 40lb bag of dog food in the trunk with a little room left over. I just have a beater minivan around when I do need to move something big.

It's stiff.

Yes, compared to a Cadillac or a Buick, but drive a Corvette to get the definition of stiff.

Corvette is not stiff. It's plush and absolutely one of the most comfortable sports car out there.

I owned S2000 and I currently own 07 Corvette coupe so I know firsthand.

I never found it to be significantly more painful than any non-sports car I've driven...except on poorly-paved roads. The seats certainly make any stiff drive far less fatiguing.

30mpg for a car that is rated at 16/21? wow, talk about driving 60mph in the slow lane.

I will be 17 years old when it's time to buy a car

:Q

How will you be paying for this car, its insurance and so forth?

Manual: 17 mpg / 29 mpg GTO
S2000 only comes in manual so I don't know why he would be interested in a granny automatic GTO

edit thats for an 03 GTO with the 5.7l. The 06 GTO with a 6.0l engine gets Manual: 17 mpg / 25 mpg while the 06 honda with a 2.2l does Manual: 20 mpg / 26 mpg. They must have changed the gearing aswell when they went to the 6.0l.

get a beater and learn out to drive first before you get something like an S2k.

You're gonna get yourself killed and injure others, if you dont know how to handle a car properly.

The S2000 is quite capable of mid-high 20s in mixed driving if you drive friendly...I even saw the good side of 30 on overnight drives across the flat, straight highways between Oklahoma and Texas.

But, well, if you're the type to get a sports car, you're gonna rev it...and you'll keep the top down and blast the AC. I personally always got around 20

[Edit] Wait, are you getting your numbers out of a magazine?

Yup. A sports car is not the sort of thing you want to learn on...

Government Regulation ?
a "FYI" ? LoL.

If someone gets a roadster I doubt they have the MPG really in mind. Sure it would be nice to get good gas mileage especially with the price of gas nowadays, but I doubt it would be a deal killer.

20-25mpg would be perfectly fine with me

Oh no. I was talking about TheDarkWolf going on and on about the differences among the published MPG figures...

Ahh...
I don't know what the published MPG for the IS300 are, but I get significantly less than what's posted.
But I do drive like a bat out of hell. So I blame myself :p

An S2000 for a daily driver is stupid. I don't even consider the STi and Evo to be cars for daily use, why would an S2000?

You won't enjoy an S2000 in the winter.

As with any sports car, I recommend leaving it to be a second car. You might want to tinker with it, try different parts, etc. or it might just need some time in the shop at some point. Basically, there are a horde of situations that you'll want to avoid. Let's not even get to the part where you have others in the car - more than one person will be tough. I love sports cars, but they are more purpose oriented and don't make good daily drivers.

You aren't driving a sports car hard when you are cruising down the highway just because its a sports car. Well you are with a miata or s2000 since they are geared so damn low and turn really high rpms ;). The GTO and mustang GTs will both hit those numbers on the highway. Around town yeah they get worse mileage then what published because you want to have a little fun but thats true for all of them.

<--- again miata owner that already said he gets 25mpg mixed. Which is much better then the 18mixed I was getting with my old 89 5.0l mustang but it was also gear pretty low and not stock. Does the s2000 need premium? Mustang doesn't and I don't think the GTO does either.

Just saying don't fool youself into getting one of these thinking you are going to be saving a lot of gas over one of them there v8 gas guzzlers cause you aren't. The OP is the one saying he didn't want a GTO or mustang because they get bad gas mileage.

S2000 requires premium gas. But the tank is so small that you don't feel like you're paying much. ;)

I'm getting similar gas mileage from the vette as to S2000.

For a daily driver, commuting to work, 5 cubic feet is plenty of space for me. And an S2000 would use a helluva lot less gas than a Tundra.

Can I just ask, S2000's seem ridiculously expensive, is there some reason for this, or are they just price gouging you?

It's a sports car on par with the Porsche Boxster S, and the BMW Z4, don't let the Honda badge fool you into thinking it's a hyped up econobox.

I did some research on the GTO. It gets 17 city, 25 highway, and 19 combined MPG per the new EPA standards. The S2000 gets 20, 25, and 22. They both take Premium.

I'm worried about the GTO's reliability, fit-and-finish, and boaty handling characteristics. Apparently they're reliable and well-made, but can anyone enlighten me?
