YACT: replacing windshield wipers UPDATE: resolved

I own a 2001 Toyota Corolla. It rained this morning and I noticed that my blades needed replacing. I went to Autozone and picked up a pair of wiper blades (Bosch Micro Edge Excel) and I'm trying to install them now. I'm having a hell of a time though.

The instructions on the blades are:
1) Remove the old wipper blade. (Hmmmmm)
I opened my owner's manual and it doesn't say how to remove them. Bleh. I start fiddling with the blade and I can't get it off. I feel a tiny lever. I pulled down on it hoping something would release but nothing does. I push down the lever and start pulling this way and that but it's no use. I tried the wiper on the passenger side and it's the same thing. I'm scared I'm going to break the entire attachment.

How the hell do I get this thing off? Thanks!

UPDATE
*done*: Instead of pulling out or pulling up and out, I had to push the lever and press the metal arm down hard and shimmy to unhook it. The hook isn't visible though. I had to feel my way through it. I was confused before since the new package contained 2 screws but my car didn't require them.

Uhhh.

These are the directions in it's entirity:

1) Remover the old wiper blade
2) Measure wiper arm
3) Mount wiper blade.

no kidding. :disgust:

Can you tell us what type of connection it is??

Edit: NEVER buy Rally Sport Windshield blades.... (from GI Joes) they are HELLA cheap but leave HELLA streaks on the windshield. To sum it all up: They SUCK.

Are you replacing just the rubber part themselves or the whole blade metal arm thingie? If its just the little rubber fills I suggest replacing the whole metal arm thingie - it costs only a little more and is MUCH easier.

If you are replacing the metal arm thingie, you just gotta force it - it takes some effort and time - but it does eventually "pop" out. Not as easily as you would think, but you gotta force it - I thought I was gonna break mine, but i forced it and it popped and eventually worked.

This is incredibly easy. How you can do all sorts of other things, is beyond me.

Sounds like they're trying to replace just the rubber. (measure arm length reference)

I usually just buy a whole new set.

I'm replacing the entire arm. I still can't get the metal piece to move. Am I supposed to pull it straight out or up and out?

I checked the weather forecast for tomorrow and it's supposed to be sunny.

There are several different styles. Can you post a pic? Not sure you are talking about the arm vs the blade.
Most of them have two "spring loaded" clips on one end. Push them both in and slide the blade out.
