YACT: remoate starter and keyless entry *poll*

I guess it is the best dollar I spend on my car to put remote starter and keyless entry in it. I don't like using the key to open the door.

Remote start would be nice for about two months during the winter, but I don't really need one as I live in VA.

I've got keyless entry in theory...my car supports it, but it didn't come with a remote when I bought it. So I bought a remote off eBay and I'll need to program it now (or more accurately, program the car to respond to the remote), but my power locks aren't working right now anyway, so I'll have to get those fixed before it really works.

Remote start is nice all year round, get the heater going in winter time, and AC going in summer time.

keyless entry, but only for the driver's door. it's a PIA (people see me press the button on the remote and automatically assume that their doors are unlocked. heh).

I have a busted ignition switch. Once I turn the car on I can remove the key, lock the doors, and walk off. Not as easy as a remote starter but the way my job is it works great.

My wife and son will each be getting a Viper 160XV for Christmas, and I hope I can keep it a surprise. I inherited my wife's old conversion van for my daily driver. I had the Valet 552T installed in it for her 1999 X-mas gift. I really enjoy having it. The keyless entry is a huge plus year round, but having the thing warm in winter is heaven.

the viper 160xv is what I have, the range is not that great for remote start.

have you tried pressing the unlock button twice? many units do once for the drivers door, twice for all doors.

I had keyless entry in my old car, the Saturn.

When my Miata was made, it wasn't even available. I believe it was added option in 2001.

I voted "key".

EDIT: Oh, remote start would be pretty dangerous in my car as well. Its a manual, and I always leave it in gear (don't want it rolling anywhere) when I turn it off. I would imagine if I left it in gear and turned the car on, exciting things might happen.

I have the option of activating the remote start on my car, but since it's manual it would only stay started for about .5 seconds before lurching forward. And I don't like parking my car out of gear just so I can remote start it.

I have keyless entry and keyless start - the newer Renault cars have cards rather than keys that you slide into a slot and press a button to start. It's a good idea, as the car can judge how long the glowplugs need to come on, etc.

I'm having them installed by 1337 professionals, mostly because DEI will only sell to their retailers. My mom's trusted mechaninc couldn't even install it for me for this reason. He recommended his friend, the 1337 professional.

I stopped at their facility on Friday and chatted with the owner. Told him this was going to be a surprise Xmas present, so I didn't want any hints of the installation to show. He said the antenna is mounted up near the rear view mirror, for the sake of greater range. He said he would tuck it under the headliner till after Xmas. If yours isn't mounted up in that position, it may account for the lack of range. My old Valet unit will reach a couple hundred feet, so if the Viper can beat that, it will be fine.

Up in here North Dakota, half of our year is spent with sub 40F weather and/or snow on the ground...autostarts are the best thing since sliced bread!

This is so weird. I was going to ask about this topic yesterday because I was having it installed into my car. I got Remote start and keyless installed.

I had Viper 125XV installed yesterday.

I inquired about it for my Rodeo yesterday... $350... ouch. Even if I buy one myself and have them install it - $200. Looks like I'll just park it in the garage at night for the winter - it's really not worth the money just to use it the same way every morning. It's worth it for those of you who don't have garages though.

can....some places will refuse to do install, some will amke you sign a wavier, and some have no problmes with it. I beleive there is a sensor that you can use so the system will know if the car is in gear or not.
