the parkway i drive on to work is 2 lanes. i stay in the left lane and usually go a good 5-20mph over the speed limit depending on traffic. if i stayed in the right lane, i'd be passing people on a regular basis.

now what truly sucks is when there are schoolbuses in that lane :|

you don't want to be one of those highway shooting victims, do you?

ya gonna shoot me for obeying the law? Ok buddy, go right ahead!

Not in Illinois. You'll get pulled over for left lane camping these days or be subjected to some serious road rage. Take your massive barge of an SUV and get it in the right lane where it belongs. I average 90mph on the interstates and even I move into the right lane when I'm not passing.

You won't be doing 90mph if I'm on the road with you. I make it my personal mission to slow down drivers who drive too fast by driving the speed limit in the left lane.

Are you a cop? If not, why are you trying to enforce the law? I never drive too fast for conditions...90mph in a sporty car on a sunny day isn't too fast.

I am not saying I am going to shoot people. I am just saying I wouldn't recommend doing stupid things in the highway JUST TO PISS PEOPLE OFF. You don't know there are crazy people out there.

Yes, yes it is. there's no reason you should be doing 90mph on a public highway. If you want to drive your sporty car on a sunny day at 90mph, take it to a track where it's safer.

Reckless driving should not be encouraged. This I agree. However, you don't know why people speed. He may be rushing to see his dad one last time. He may be rushing to the hospital to see his baby. Who are you to judge? People speed and they take the risk of being pulled over. Cops will probably not buy their stories and write them a ticket anyway. but who are you trying to play cops?

Driving 90mph could be dangerous. But deliberately blocking him causing more road rage is definitely even more dangerous. Don't you think you are causing even more hazards to the rest of the people driving around you? Heck, I don't even have problems with people driving 65 in the left lane. Just don't try to block the person by accelerating when the fast person is trying to pass. You are not helping the situation but endangering people around you.

nothing's more dangerous than slowing down in the fast lane because the guy behind you is tailgating.... then slowing some more due to more tailgating.... then eventually stopping on the freeway (tailgating guy stopped too) then having the crazy tailgating bastard chase you all over the freeway. Thankfully the scary tailgater eventually ran out of gas.

My friend swears this is true, and his ex-gf stands by the story.

anyways, things are different in different states. Some states don't have passing lanes. Maybe we should include a "passing lane states only" tag to messages so we don't get the same STUPID arguement over and over again.

Although you probably don't realize this, accidents on the freeway happen because of lack of attention (IE: merging into somebody else or cutting someone off), or by large differences in speed. As a poster below mentioned, having to slow down for somebody clogging the fast lane will eventually lead to a section of traffic in that lane to slow down considerably as others pass you on the right.

You are not a traffic control officer.

Finally, for proof of the above statements, take for example the German Autobahn. You have people with rustbuckets that can barely do 130kmh and others with exotic cars that can do 250kmh... all coexisting happily and with remarkably low accident rate on the same 2-3 lane road. Because every body follows the rule that the fast lane is to be used only for high speed traffic, large differences in speed rarely occur, and as such, accidents are reduced.

I constantly find myself switching over to the middle or right lanes to pass cars spread all over the highway doing 120 in a 100, instead of them being in the middle and right lanes doing their 120 and letting the high speed traffic go at their own pace.

Agree. Although I'm always the one going 90mph, I always move over.

Some people intentionally stay on the left lane when the right lane beside them has no cars. I'd creep up and stay with them for maybe 15 seconds, then if they still don't move then I pass them on the right. Though some people may stay in left lane in anticipation of a upcoming left turn into a country side road.

People are less and less tolerant of each other and the spaces around them. And that includes me sometimes as well.

The left lane is for passing. Slower traffic must yield to faster cars. That means MOVE THE FVCK OVER if someone behind you is going faster than you. If you're going to drive 55mph on a freeway with a 65mph speed limit, GET OUT OF THE LEFT LANE. :| :| :|

I don't give a fvck if it's a repost. This thread should be reposted ad nauseum until those of you who don't obey this law figure it out.

/end rant

Oh come on, the right lane moves a hell of a lot faster than the left now.

You flash your lights? Id probably brake check you..
You do realise that flashing the lights is the internationally recognised signal that the person behind you wants to pass? That's taught in basic driver's ed. At least it was when I took driver's ed. But the sh!t that passes for driver's ed here in the states is a joke anyway so it's no surprise that you're too ignorant to know any better.

There's a major cause of road rage right there...

Hey, WhoTF are you to decide what's too fast? Are you a police officer in a police car...my guess is no.

I hope one day when you are being your normal a$$hat self trying to slow someone down, and they are trying to get a dying person to the hospital or something, and you hold them up just long enough to be too late, you realize that maybe, just maybe, you don't know best.

What really piss me off is people driving 65MPH in on the left lane when the speed limit is 75MPH.

I drive on the left most of the time. the irony, my first ticket was "fail to keep right" because I was blocking a cop. well, I do yield if the guy needs to pass me.

Why don't you drive on right lane? It's certainly empty in most cases. Remember we have 2 billions Asians who traditionaly have left lane as slow.
