This is sure to start a few arguements.

First off I do use propane in both of our mercedes diesels, and it works great. Too good actually. I need to add some isobutane as the outlet temperature is 20F.

Whenever I mention it to people, the instant they hear propane they are like OMG you are going to blow yourself up.

Just looking for some facts on either side

I have a feeling the EPA is in bed with Dupont.
I also hear that Europe and the rest of the world have started to convert to HC refrigerants. Anyone in Europe know what they are using in cars?
No one seems to have a problem with propane powered vehicles or propane injection for diesels, yet 1lb of propane has them freaking out.

isobutane eh?

So does that mean I can just use a Ronson butane bottle to refill my A/C? :D

Propane works extremely well as a refrigerant, don't ask me why they are not using it though..

Heh, if you can get that bottle to 60 or so psi :)

I think the correct mixture is 80% propane 20% isobutane. butane is just there to prevent what happened to me, system get's too cold and freezes

I think that the coleman stove fuel is the right mixture.

I'm really interested in using it as a R-22 replacement. Some of the numbers i've seen show a 10%-20% drop in compressor current.

Well don't ever get into a motorvehicle accident with gasoline in your tank, sounds silly doesn't it ?

Most AC is right by the front of a car and by the motor so their is much greater risk of it leaking or ignition. Also it can exploded when some one recharges the system.

And the high pressure fuel lines are not located in the engine compartment as well ?

Gasoline cannot ignite when someone works on the fuel system ?
