I love my integra. Bought it with 88K in December of 03, now has 102K on it. Its a 95 2 door LS, no VTEC for me. Only work so far was the radadator, although some rust is forming around the back wheel wells. As far as a price, I only paid 2200, my dad took it in trade from a nice older guy. The 4 door is rare though :p, I would just be careful about the following.

-Timing Belt
-Radatator
-Brakes?

Overall a nice car, but it seems a little pricey, although the 4 door is nice for bringing people around.

2) you can pick any car any day for KBB value (and it will be in the appropritate shape) - unless you need the car *righ now*, you overpaid
3) can't stand that color ... i had a turbo awd talon in the same green and never made peace with it...

on the positive note, it will last you longer than anythign else you own. Acura/Honda reliability is rediculous :)

1) the coupes are uncomfortably small. i would settle for an accord/CL coupe, but not a civic/integra coupe.

2) you're right, i didn't get a super deal on it. but the reality is, there are very few integras out there that haven't been modded up the wazoo by teenagers or raced the hell out of by ricers. this was a 1 owner (white lady), garaged car, with all records and flawless exterior. the prepurchase inspection will reveal any internal bad stuff. plus, it met nearly all my requirements (including tape deck so i don't need to install a new head unit for my 20gb zen) except the color (but they don't make gs-r's in black). plus, i have been looking for almost a year now. need the car in july.

3) see 2.

damn right about honda reliability. i'll be retiring my 1988 accord lx 5 speed with this one. to another 180k miles.

Info

darn, not at ucla anymore. know any good sf bay area shops?

as far as security, i plan to put in a viper alarm (possibly a 2-way unit) in addition to the club and brake club. plus it'll be covered when outside (have to trade off with 1 roommate for garage priviledges). what do you guys think? is lojack worth it? the neighborhood is fairly affluent with pretty low crime rates (albeit in vallejo, ca) and we have a vigilant, retired cop as a neighbor.

My parents didn't get LoJack for their GSR back in 97 and 6 months later it was stole from our driveway in the middle of the night. Never saw it again, I asked the same question about a GSR (search integra) and people said they usually didn't want the car back if it were stolen.

Hopefully with all the precautions you're taking the worst they could do is break into your car and steal your stereo.

what antitheft devices were you parents using?

Just an alarm. We had the club but my mom got tired of putting on and taking it off every time she went out (she drives frequently) so it ended up not being used. I don't think it would have mattered much since the guys who stole it were pro. They didn't even set off the alarm and it was very sensitive. The neighbors cat would set it off if it stepped on it.

after reading your old thread, making me kinda hesitate now ha...technically, i can still pull the offer from the table, tho she'll never sell it to me again.

are wheel locks useful at all? any recommended brand, or just oem?

When I posted the Integra thread I initially thought I'd get more pros than cons but seeing as how many Integra's have salvaged titles, how many get stolen and my parents being stolen I started re-thinking the whole integra scene.

Wheel locks will slow a thief down but it won't stop them, a professional thief can steal anything and theres nothing you can do shy of never driving it out of the garage. The best you can do is watch where you park and secure your car when you leave. Get a good security system and a thief will probably think twice and move on seeing how much harder it'll be to steal.

I'm still seriously thinking about buying an Integra GSR but when I buy it I'll probably go overboard on security and not make it flashy looking.

yea, all the common sense stuff is good to follow.

i've always liked the stock look so i won't be adding much to it, but my main concern is that the gs-r rims give it away. plus the 'dohc vtec' emblem. right now, im looking to give it to acura to inspect it (like a 100 pt inspection) and if it passes, go ahead with it.

Like someone said, wheel locks only slow them down. If they really want your rims and you have wheel locks, they'll just steal the whole car and deal with the locks later. But since these are only stock ones you should have to worry much but it could happen.

The car looks nice. The only thing really missing is leather interior. Makes the car a little more classy.

Blah...don't listen to these guys.....thats a good price for a GS-R.
I've been checking GS-R prices all the time and its a good price for the yr and milage.
If it was a couoe, it would have cost more than $8K.

Now for the nagative.....if you don't garage that car, you will have major problem if you live in Cali.

When I loved to Cali, my first day there, they broke into my Civic Si.
3 weeks later, they stole my car.
My brother then had to clear out the garage and let me park in there or else my car would not last.

Theres 2 reason why Honda cars are theft magnet.
1) they can easily to sold for parts.
2) they are extremely stealable. You can get a wrench, break the ignition part in half, and use any key to start the car.

thanks for the input guys.

running into a few more problems... as stated before, a new clutch will run about $1k. 2 mechanic friends have told me to bypass the vehicle inspection and straight up replace the clutch. i can see that, especially i don't want to be dealing with repairs when med school starts.

timing belt: $700 at a dealer, $500 elsewhere. i never knew the repairs on this car was so expensive! recommended interval is 105k miles or 7 years, and it's a 7 year old car. is this a fair negotiating point? if i don't do it, she'll be stuck with it.

i'm thinking about renegging on my 8000 offer...is that too lowball of a thing to do? kbb price is for a car that 'needs no reconditioning' but in this car, the clutch, timing belt, and tires are all issues. what to do...

take the car to your mechanic friend, point out the car has such and such problem, and negotiate from the $8k offer.

If it doesn't feel right, don't do it.

Last time I felt this, I did it anyway but I got lucky.
When I bought my 99 Si, I went against everything you're suppose to do but somehow I lucked out.

I bought it without even test driving it...mostly because I made an offer and he took it right there.
Then he needed my money to pay off the loan to get the title and although evryone told me not to...I gave him the money anyway.
3 yrs later, the car is still flawless....even after it was stolen and was sitting on the ground with no wheels when they found it.

yea, if only i had one. i found a few 'friend of a friend' mechanics but i'd still have to pony up $100 for the check i think.

the problem that some friends have told me (and some dealer mechanics) is that the timing belt and clutch don't give very good warning signs and might not be diagnosable from the inspection. what then?

yea, i told myself i'd learn to fix my cars but have been too lazy. maybe cause i've never had one to call my own.

Btw, the 2.2CL has timing belt as well that will need to be changed at about 80k or so. Pick your poison, the cost of the work is about the same.

update again: so i started having second thoughts about paying straight kbb for a car that possibly needs a new clutch and is due for a new timing belt like NOW. does kbb take into consideration repairs that need to be done? she says it shouldn't be her responsibility. thus, i say, she doesn't get the price for excellent. thoughts on this fun negotiation game? i knocked my offer down to 7200

acura recommends new timing belt at 7 years or 105k, whichever comes first.

I thought it was 6 years or 90k miles. I took my Legend to an Acura/Honda specialist again (not kerechuk because they wanted $900 which was more than most dealerships wanted) and they charged me $500 for Timing Belt, Water Pump, and Timing Belt Tensioner. They also used genuine honda parts.

he's asking 9000.

the 800 figure was an average of 8 bay area dealers. at a private shop, maybe 500.

either way, how do i convince her this service is her responsibility, not mine?

(the 7yr/105k is from the manual)

final update: i said $7400 and i'll cover the timing belt. she says $7700 and the car is mine, or else she's showing to a 'very interested' person on thursday. do i do it? kbb is $8100.
