bluebook is $8100 in excellent condition (private party) and $10k from dealer. she claims to have all the records, and it looks great on paper. i'll be seeing it tomorrow.
what should my starting bid be?
update: after the test drive, i offered her 7800. she came back with 8500. my main concern is the clutch, which has 72k on it. its a lady, but i think she mighta pushed the car a bit. plus she complained of a squeak at 60k miles. con: need to put $250 more in for an alarm, and pay about $400 more in insurance/year. but its a gs-r!
also have a 1997 2.2CL to consider. stick, 52k miles, leather, more luxurious than the integra and smoother ride (duh). yet, has decent pickup. cons: first year model...has driver door body work before, will need new tires and brakes, leather worn.
both are original owners with all records, clean carfaxs and titles. both green (oh well).
i'll need the car for at least 4 years of med school. might get married after that. but residency will preclude kids for a while. so, which one?
update 2: i wrote her a nice long email about the clutch being questionable and costing 1G to fix, her tires having 20k on them, and the car being 3k miles from a major service and she took my $8000 offer.
now...gotta get an alarm system, wheel locks, insurance, blah.
update 3: see below. having second thoughts about my offer after doing more research on the repair costs...
update again: so i started having second thoughts about paying straight kbb for a car that possibly needs a new clutch and is due for a new timing belt like NOW. does kbb take into consideration repairs that need to be done? she says it shouldn't be her responsibility. thus, i say, she doesn't get the price for excellent. thoughts on this fun negotiation game?
