ANYHOO...how old is it? Maybe your E-brake is on, hehe. or you could be running really rich but you'd probably notice other problems.

Is this around town or on the highway? My GTI gets like 28 mpg on the highway, but 15 or so around boston/surrounding areas 🙁

Thats terrible mileage. Have it tuned up.
K&N probably makes a stock replacement air filter for it and there is none better.
Very low restriction and excellent filtration.
My ex has a 98 Passat vr6 that got 18mpg in town.

That seems low to me. I have a 2001.5 GLX Variant (wagon for those not in the know) 😉

I get about 22 in the city and 28 on the highway.

Passats are NOT lightweight cars. In any case I could see a 18 to 20 mph, but I think you ought to have a mechanic check yours out.

Try an oiled-foam filter instead of an oiled-cotton one.

turbo cars need high octane. It would detonate if you put 87 in it..

Do you punch it a lot? At full boost most turbo motors will eat gas at like 5 or 7 mpg.

Because the manual recommends premium plus.

Oh and out of curiosity does anyone know how often the mode 1 of the trip computer resets? Everytime you start your car or what?

Yes, it does recommend premium.

fyleo, just a recommendation based on past experience. On the passat board ask about setting lobe centers on the stock cam. my nieces civic needed a major tune up. I did it at 90000. When I changed the cam drive belt and set the cam to its factory timing marks, it was way off by the way. That little 4 took off like a scalded dog..If the cam is off 5 degrees
it makes a noticeable difference. Just ask and let us know.
