Somehow I bumped something into my new radiator

I was kinda hoping to install it this weekend, but now I don't know if I should pressure test it first and have it repaired if necessary.

I know the pic sucks .. I can take another if someone in the know really needs a better one to be sure. Basically I don't see any gaping cracks, but depending on how the side seams on these things are constructed, I may have split it open enough for a leak.

Anyone know if I should
-put it in and try it.
-thin coat of jb weld, then try it.
-wait for a rad shop to check it out.

So I guess I'm also asking if anyone has had luck with JB weld on radiators, too (it seems like it might be too flexy for JB)

Or you could fill it with water and see if it leaks before putting it in the car?

I suggest beer. More fun to empty out that way.

hmm, a good point...plus, you could put a tap on it and combine a pressure test with a keg party.

only if you live in the south though....

Then it can be a "Meet my Uncle Daddy while we tap my new radiator" party.

Fun times...fun times...

Oh yeah then you can enjoy then next week peeing shiny. Wait you guys don't get it.

it was about 140 bucks.
I can tell from looking at it that it won't leak without pressure .. my concern is what happens once it does get pressurized.
Also, I am lazy and I really don't want to install it only to have to take it back out again. Since I am cheap, I don't want to pay someone else to do it either 🙂

just fill the fvcker full of a liquid. See if any leaks. If not, you should be ok.

whats it made of? looks like copper in the pic but maybe its just coated with something?

do you still have your old hoses, clamps, radiator cap handy?does this radiator even have a cap? i'm sure you could hydrstatic test it in a bathtub without to much difficulty

It's brass, but the exterior has been painted black ... wish I could have gotten aluminum for that price though 😀
I guess I'll give it a shot and see what happens - I just mainly wanted to make sure someone wouldn't tell me that even a little damage is enough to make it a certain thing that it will need repair.

Just install the thing. If it leaks it takes what 10mins to pull back out? Fill it with just water if you're really worried so you don't waste coolant if you want to play it safe.
