YACT oil change

In my car manual (2003 honda accord) it says for normal condition to change oil in engine every 10,000 mile or 1 year under normal condition and 5,000 miles under server conditions. If you ask jefy lube for ex they will say every 3000 miles so are they lieng to people just to make more money or is it much better to get oil change every 3000 miles?

Supposedly the 3000 mile interval is a marketing ploy invented by the oil change places, but I feel it's better to be safe than sorry, especially if you drive a lot or you have an older car.

with the advancement of engine design and lubrication, I would think that 3,000 miles is to quick to change oil. I go minimum of 4,000 at the most 5,000 between changes(synthetic is expensive)

Thou, i don't doubt the 10K mile thing, as i knew a chick that drove a 95 sentra 30,000 miles, and never changed the oil.
but the engine did finally seize.

I do it every 3000, but I drive an older car and oil is so cheap that it's better safe than sorry. Plus my left valve cover gasket leaks a little bit.

One of the hosts of Car Talk is trying an experiment, he hasn't changed oil in one of his cars for 6 years now...

He didn't mention how many miles he has on it.

I did 30k in my 90 subaru legacy and its still going... I saw a thing on some news show awhile ago they did changes at 3k on one car and and 7.5k(i think)on the other on new york taxi cabs than disassembled the engines at 100k and noticed no difference

It's a marketing plan.

The BMW center changes the oil on my spousal unit's BMW at 10,000 or 1 year.

Valvoline Instant Oil Change does my truck every 5,000.

My owner's manual for the 2003 4Runner says to change the oil every 5k for city driving and 7.5k for highway driving. Since most of my driving is short (I live 3.5 miles from work) I'm going with the every 5k schedule.

My Honda manual says 7500 for regular driving, 5000 for severe driving conditions. I change around 4500 just because I think the heat in TX could be considered a severe condition, even though most of my miles are highway miles.

Well, I'm certainly no car expert, but I'd do what the car manufacturer says. I mean, who knows that car better than them?

When it doubt, just stick with the 6 cylinder or 4 cylinder convention.

No, it has a flat-4. 😛

yeah the oil change interval is way too soon for most. 5-7.5k is even thought of as too soon....but I try to keep it between 3-5k.

Some even think this new trend to 3k oil changes have something to do with conspiracy to force us to rely on oil more and enable a war for control of it easier.

🙂

Depends on what car you drive.

-Dads 95 Bonneville 3.8L V6 - 3K miles (no matter what condition) (10W30 Mobil 1) GM/Delco Filter

-My 2001 Astro 4.3 L V6 - 3K miles (city, short trips) 5K miles on mostly highway (5W30 Mobil 1) GM/Delco Filter

I'm not suprised the Honda's and Toyotas are making better engines that need lesser oil changes and longer periods before a change is due 😀 . GM Sucks totally :|
