since the wife's car got stolen last night, i'm assuming its good as gone and we'll use the insurance money toward a nissan murano. we like the styling, i'm a nissan fanboy, and it got good reviews from edmunds.com. does anybody have one and can shed some comments? thanks

wow. didnt like the old car much eh? 🙂

we came close to buying one... its a good suv that feels and handles like a car. good mileage for an suv. awesome engine.
one thing to take note of: i liked the styling at first too, but i think it would get tiring. the front looks like a grinning dinosaur. the more i looked at it, the more i didnt like it. the fx35 on the other hand..... wow. hawt.

i have a neighbor who HAD one, but after two weeks or so, they gave it back and instead, got the infiniti fx35

its based on nissan, and i've taken a ride in it, and its pretty nice . . .

A nissan murano is like an ugly woman with huge breasts. If you are a breast man, great...otherwise look elsewhere.

VQ engine is overated when the platform its built on is so terrible.

The Honda Pilot's ride and utility are far superior.

edit: I should add that after test driving the murano (and i would assume the fx is fairly similar), the pilot is a far larger and more comfortable vehicle. It's an MDX, without the MDX.

1. The platform the murano is built on is brand new - (not specifically for the murano, but its the one used for several of the current generation Nissan/Infiniti vehicles). Why do you say the platform is terrible?
2. The VQ is overated? Have you driven a Nissan/Infiniti with any variant of the VQ, and what other engine out there (V6) is better?

njmodi, are you sure? I was under the impression that there were NOT very many similarities between the fx35 and the murano??

There are configuration differences, e.g. the Murano comes with a CVT whereas the FX35 comes with a 5spd auto... probably better appointments in the FX line.. obviously the FX45 has the most differences with the 4.5L V8 - thats a sweet ride (Nissan bias obvious).

The FX35 and Murano relationship (IMHO) is similar to (for example) the Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe relationship.

As far as I know, the FX and the Murano aren't even based off of the same platform, while the Matrix and Vibe are very much identical

I stand humbly corrected. Thank you geno and flot.

FYI - something I should have googled on earlier.

?The FX is making its debut shortly after Nissan?s new Murano, and given the similar size of the two vehicles, some might think that the two vehicles are on the same platform. But, read: they are not. To clear up the confusion, the Murano is built on Nissan?s corporate FF-M platform, a primarily front-wheel-drive platform that the Altima, Maxima, and next-generation Quest are based on, and the engine is mounted transversely (side-to-side). The FX, on the other hand, is built on Nissan?s corporate FM (Front Midship) platform, a primarily rear-wheel-drive (and all-wheel-drive) performance-oriented platform also used by the Nissan Z350 and Infiniti G35, and the engines are mounted longitudinally (front-to-back).?

The full article can be read here (I got blocked at work - so I can't guarantee this link works - I got the above text from an excerpt posted at an automotive forum website).

Just to clarify:

The only thing the FX35 & Murano share is the engine, and even then they are in different states of tune.

Apart from that, everythign is different. From the platform to the AWD system to the CVT tranny (which is apparently very good in the Murano) to the suspension.

All I know of the Murano is that its quite safe. My friend's family got into an accident in a Murano, it caused it roll over after hitting the median, etc...and everyone made it out safe, incl. the two kids in the back (child seats obviously helped them there).
