Worth the money to get a '02-'03 Maxima with the 3.5L as opposed to a '00-'01 with the 3.0L?

I would tell you to ask on a Maxima forum but the one my friend showed me charges you like $20 to search or post.....

www.maxima.org

My brother has the 96 SE with bolt on mods and the thing is a blast to drive. The thing just keeps going and going, even in 4th gear on highways. When you step on it, it will respond. And I personally think the 4th gens looked the best ;)

My vote is for the 2001. I like them the best out of any years. It's the 20th anniversary edition, (SE only) and the interior on those is awesome.. I am personally looking at getting one for myself. I just want to hold out til I can find the right one, mint, with a manual trans. preferably in driftwood (burgundy) or white.

There is no reason not to...

Ive owned both... i prefer the 3.0 liter. Gets about 6 mpg better than the 3.5 liter does and has all of the pep and speed.

According to the EPA estimates, the mpg is almost identical for both the 3.0 and 3.5 L. I'm guessing it's because they upgraded the transmission. One thing I noticed driving Nissans, is that the bigger engines don't feel like they're running that much faster unless you really stomp on the pedal. The difference is mostly how loud the engine is (how high it revs) at a given power output. After I step out of my maxima and drive/ride in my girly's civic, i get a headache at how annoyingly loud the car is. If you want a fart can and the cops' attention, the smaller engine is for you.

3.0 is rock solid. The 3.5L seems to have far more cases of oil burning (across the various lines, altima, maxima, 350z), etc.

I vote 3.5L ... I had the 3.0L in my '97 I30 and I've got the 3.5L in my '02 I35. Gas mileage is similar.... here is a list of the cars I've owned and the gas mileage they got, all in the same location with similar driving (60% hwy, 40% city). This is the average MPG after tracking many fillups and how many miles I traveled according to the trip.

1989 Pontiac Grand Am - 25 mpg over 12 months
1998 Saturn SC2 - 26.5 mpg over 13 months
2002 Honda Civic - 28 mpg over 18 months (was rated for 30 city, 38 hwy)
1985 Toyota Celica GT-S - 23 mpg over 4 months
1997 Infiniti I30 - 24 mpg over 12 months
1998 Infiniti QX4 - 15.5 mpg over 9 months
2002 Infiniti I35 - 22 mpg over 3 months

The difference between 2 miles per gallon means less than $100 in savings over a 12 month period. I'm happy with my 3.5L

Having said that, I'd be happy with either a 3.0L or a 3.5L VQ... I love them. However, if you don't mind a 2 mpg deficit, pick up a 3.5.

Why are you getting rid of it?
Mechanical problems?
Bored with it?

I drove the hell out of it. I was driving about 200 miles a day for along time, and understandably it is having problems. I've been putting alot of money into it lately. It has 146k miles or so.

big problems only at 146,000 miles? I thought these types of cars were supposed to run forever, as in no worries until around the 200,000 mile mark (provided you take good care of it)
I currently own a 96, which is sittin at 120,000. I wonder how much longer I should hold onto this for? lol.

I took good care of it, but the miles went on pretty quickly. 200 miles a day is heavy driving and is not easy on the car.

The only time id get the 3.0 over the 3.5 is

I30T over the I35

why? I35 comes with ugly cheap fake wood trim on all models while the I30T doesnt
