if practicality is an issue, i think the honda element is cool.
Yeah, but if taste is an issue, I think the Honda Element looks like a box.

so does the merc G55 AMG. im sure everyone here loves that car.

i like the scion tC. lots of stuff for not a lot of money.

No freakin' way am I buying a GM car. I drove the Cobalt and it's a piece of plastic, not a very solid car. I drive a GM now and have had nothing but problems with it.
I live in Ma and there's no way am I buying a convertible. Plus the Solstice only gets 22/28, and for that I'd be better off with an Impreza.

So far from what I've read it's currently down to the '06 Civic and the '06 Mazda3. The Kia Spectra5 is pretty good too. The '06 Civic gets 40/30 btw.

also look into the toyota matrix. cheap practical car with lots of room and a nice smooth ride. interior is however on the cheap side.

I get a solid 28-30mpg on my impreza in mixed driving conditions. Never drops below 25-26mpg unless I redline every single gear every time for the whole tank.

Matrix is good but underpowered, and comes with nothing standard.

we are pretty set on a VW jetta or passat TDI

i just need to talk to the sales guy about the diesel switch thing that is supposed to happen next year. i don't see how we can get it before january though

Got the GF a 2006 corolla S 2 weeks ago. Right when gas was 3 bucks a gallon. Paid 16.5 before taxes/reg and stuff. I haven't been in the back seat yet, but front looks very nice, roomy, and fits into all the compact parking spaces. great mileage too.

Wait a few months for the Dodge Caliber, it will come with all-wheel drive. It's also a 5-Door.

Hyundai is right up there with honda and toyota in the reliability rankings, and problems / 100... plus they have better warranty. Seems win win to me
