so I think its time to get rid of my POS. I am looking for something reliable. Thats it, nothing sporty, fast, flashy or ricerish. I just need a good dependable car. I would like it to be a '00 or above.

Point me in the right direction ATOT!

2000 and up, under $5000 and reliable? good luck.

I say a 1992-96 Civic or 1994-1998 corolla. it may have over 120,000 miles, but those thing should run fine till 200k.

possibly a toyota corolla,

you can't get an 00 and up civic for that little.. their resale is too good.

don't know what else to offer..
you can probably get a 2k1 neon for that much.. my 2k1 R/T has been bulletproof for me to this point.. almost 4 years old now since I got it, and it has 105,000 kms on it.. not a problem with it other than little things.

hope this helps,

I saw something like a 2001 sentra with 35k miles for around $6k a while ago. They drop in resale so quickly, and it's not representative of their quality. I'd reco one of those.

I know you guys are going to flame me, but I prefer domestics. They are cheaper to repair and they are what I have experience repairing. I know with that price range I will have to do some work on it sooner or later.

If you lived near Philly, my father-in-law will be getting rid of his '98 Intrepid ES with 60K miles for approx. $3K.

After I posted I saw you were in Michigan, after which I realized I shouldn't have recommended the Civic, since EVERYONE in Michigan drives American cars. Hooray for the UAW.

Anyway, you could try something like this. Our '01 Focus has been 100% problem free for us.

Stick with Toyota, Honda or Mazda... or you will be sorry!

My choice... is also a Civic.

a 2000+ Ford Taurus is another excellent option. Since they've been around since the late 80s, Ford has pretty much hammered out all of the issues and the 2000+ models are very dependable. Plus they are dirt cheap with insurance.

I've had my 2000 Taurus for almost two years now and it's never been in the shop aside from oil changes transmission flush, and other small maintenence items.

Why is NFS regarded as some sort of car god around here? Just because he knows how to link to articles on Emunds doesn't make him the car authority here.

Hey, everyone has their specialty. You don't hear NSF4 calling you out on being the spider expert, do you?

Probably a corolla even 99 or 00 you might find for decent price. Stay with Toyota or Honda ... We have a mazda and my mom only drives 2 - 4 miles a day on it, and there has been more problems with it than our toyota and hondas.
