That's because we knew that you were looking to cut costs and maintenance on a merc will surely be higher than on a toyota when you've got to bring it in to the dealer!

Yeah maintenance at the dealer is pretty expensive (110 for an oilchange), but these things last really long time and dont depreciate anywhere near the rate of camrys and maximas. Not to mention my mom (and my self and my brother) are all european, so we gotta represent :)

Im planning on doing vast majority of the maintenance myself to save my moms cash, i just gotta find a good place to buy cheap benz oil filters :)

Oh yeah the car only had one owner (68 year old lady) and has all the maintenace documentation since 97 :)

Uhhh

Retail price of MB C230 Sedan in 1997: $31,000
Current trade in price: $8800

Retail price of Toyota Camry LE in 1997: $19,600
Current trade in price: $5500

The camry does a bit better in depreciation me thinks.

After the first 5 years of depreciation are finished I bet the Benz will depreciate slower though, so really how much it has depreciated already is fairly irelevant.

Yeah i was talking in terms of resale value in say 2-3 years if my mom decides to get something else. With camry it would lose good 30-40% of its value, i should be able to get at least 7 for benz

1990 camry Deluxe with 100k kbb says 2550
1990 300e with 100k kbb says 5260

I'm not going to count those '90 cars because they aren't good comparisons.

A 94 camry which is virutally the same as the 97 I quoted earlier has a trade in of $3000 vs. $5500 for the '97.

An entry level C series MB has a trade in of $4500 in '94 vs the $8800 for the '97.

The camry still wins.

I'm not going to continue to argue because it won't prove anything more than what my numbers already show.

I agree. No way you are going to get 7k for that thing in two years, especially when you get much past the 7k mark.
