YACT: my IE got hijacked. Tried a removal program, but it won't go away..

My computer got infected with the CoolWebSearch trojan.

When I search for something in whatever search engine, this trojan automatically opens a new window and starts a new search with the search keyword I just typed into a search engine.

http://search-company.com/search.php?qq=(whatever I used in search here)&pin=#####

And sometimes on bottom of those searches, there is a contact us button that leads to:

http://looking-for.cc/cont.html . Clicking around eventually leads to http://lookfor.cc

I used the removal software from http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html but the damn thing won't go away.

Anyone know how I get rid of this f%!%ing thing?

It might have came from those uncontrollable porn ads that seems to come from nowhere. If you've been to "filesharing" related sites, these are common 😉

Stop looking at porn and this won't happen anymore.

hey, lets not say anything rash, anything we cant take back.
It's not rash.....every system I have been called about to fix this crap has been owned by a porn addict. I installed Google Toolbar on these machines to get an idea of their activity by looking at how many blocked sites there were and I have been totally blown away from what I have found. There seems to be a new trojan/hijack out there that just can't be removed with conventional tools. It has infected this friend of mine's machine for over a month and he now has 58,000 blocked pop ups by google....and I just installled it about a week before he got infected with this crap.

switch to FireFox ..

if you don't want to ..

wait for CWShredder to update their program to clean that nasty stuff on IE (the moist place where all viruses all formed)
- you can try what's on CWShredder's site now and see if it cleans it.

Some sites are just popup hell and they're not necessarily porn sites. I never look at porn on my work computer and I've got over 2500 blocked popups.

FireFox and Firebird, while great browsers, just don't startup that fast on my machine. Takes them what seems like forever, when compared to IE. Also, if I minimize Firebird for a couple fo hours, and try to maximize it again, the PC struggles to laod it back up again. Don't ever have that problem with IE, and I don't think its my PC (900 MHz Duron, 256 MB RAM, Win2k, etc)

I had to use that CWShredder tool this past week to remove it, and worked without a hitch.

cwshredder and hijack this work all the time . go to their forums and they'll easily be able to help you.

AdAware
Spybot Search and Destroy
CWShredder
Spywareblaster
(in this order)

If that doesn't work, d/l Hi Jack This! and head to http://www.spywareinfo.com/ and post in their forums for help on your situation.

I've used that combo of proggies listed and never have a problem with hijacks anymore.

I thought that was just me. It's my only problem with what I think is otherwise a perfect browser :/

I have 256mb ram as well... maybe it just REALLY wants half a gig or more, but I often have about 100 free while it sits there loading stuff back into memory. I think I might submit a bug report, it's very annoying :/
