So I think the oil pump in my car is dying, last night on the drive home the oil light came on, so I babied it home and parked it, checked the oil 30 min later saw that it was a quart low. Added a quart, started it and the light came back on after the car warmed up. :(
Anyone have any idea on how much getting it replaced by a mechanic would cost? I simply dont have the right work enviroment (parking lot) to work on it without getting tons of dirt in the motor and ticking off my complex's management.

And if there is already damage to the motor with driving with low oil pressure, though I hope there isnt :( what are some decent cars/light trucks for under 5-6k only requirement is that they be decently fuel effiecent.

If the pump was bad it would have a low oil pressure problem both cold and warm. Since the problem only happens after the engine warms up it more likey to be worn engine bearings since oil is thinner once warm.

It could coast $3-400 to replace lower engine bearings on your car.

Thats conclusion I'm starting to come to also. I messed with it today let it warm up to normal in idle oil light didnt come on, took a test drive around the parking lot, I didn't get 500 feet before the light came on and I parked the car. Now have the delima of putting money into a nearly 20 year old car or get something newer. :(
*sigh* the fun never ends.
