Nik,

I don't understand why he would tell you that. It's completely wrong.

Plus, you can absolutely swap a 2.8 for a 4.3. Do a google search and you'll get tons of hits about it. Now whether you'll still be emissions legal, I can't answer for your state.

The 4.3 won't fit in my rig. I've heard this from him and several others - one of which makes a living doing this kind of work. :)

Yes it will, I have done this and some V8 engines as well. Cost wise it's a big jump, but the performance gain might be worth it if you needed to replace your engine. Here is a link to the 2.8L V6 Intake Manfold, Click here

I believe the saying is: Injection is fine, but I'd rather be blown.

No.

Actually it sometimes amuses me that the same people who rag on others for not being "computer literate" will still ask questions like this.

"Displacement" does not seem to me to be a difficult concept, and yet I have problems with "DNS", MAC address and IP configuration.

Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

If I were posting on a car forum, I would get flamed accordingly. If you're a car tech posting on a computer forum, wear asbestos.

Being a Mechanic a 4.3L will not just fit without some mods. You will need to change mounts, and you will need a 4.3L Trans. The 2.8 is a metric engine and the 4.3 is SAE. So the bolt holes on the Trans are different. My first car was 1 87 Firebird with a 2.8L

Also do not try and add performance parts to that motor. The early 2.8's had Main bearing problems(they were to small) the later 2.8's and 3.1's fixed this.
You would do better getting a 4.3 Trans and a 4.3 and build it up, but may not be worth it if the truck is not in a very good condition.

The truck's in great shape, other than the fact that it needs a new gasket (the one that goes between the carb and the manifold), possibly a new carb, and a new master cylinder.

Sorry. I thought this was "OT".

It is. On a primarily computer based forum. The people who are going to be attracted here will, for the most part, have a heavier computer-based background or interest than anything else.

Gotcha!
I foolishly assumed that *YACT* had something to do with cars.

To be picky, the exact phrase is: Injection is nice, but I'd rather be Blown ;)

I believe my suggestion would be to listen to different people. Remember, I am a pro; I generally don't give car advice about models I'm not familiar with unless I bone up on them first, which I did regarding the engine swap, before I posted.
Simply put, and no offense to your friends intended, they just don't seem to be very knowledgeable regarding their profession. That's not a big surprise, many mechanics are basically parts changers.
The same guy has already told you 2 things that are completely wrong, so he definitely has a credibility problem with me.
Tell your friends to start posting here; they might learn something. :p
