Seriously, officer! It's wasn't me honking my horn and flashing my lights at you! It was my car! My car thinks your cruiser is hot, and wanted some luvin'!

LOL!

Sorry to hear you're so important and busy that every second of your life is taken up by work. You'd think by working so much you'd have more money.

I hate when people say things like that in hobbiest posts.

I never saw that many 82 Trans Ams on the road. Especially none today. Im guessing they weren't reliable at all?

My '98 Firebird was very unreliable. That's part of the reason I traded it in for a Toyota.

Yeah...TransAm's, Camaro's, Mustang's.....all those cars from that era were awful quality-wise. I had an 84 Mustang and the dip-wad engineers at Ford decided it was a good idea to use aluminum valve covers and water pumps on their steel engine blocks. The result? Well, steel expands twice as much as aluminum when heated, so you had the nice effect of losing all of your gaskets after a couple years of driving. GM cars of that era had serious transmission problems...that whole segment of American car history is what helped spur the acceptance of foreign cars in the US.

So yeah...you don't see too many 80's sportscars on the road anymore---mostly because they're all probably rusting in front of someone's trailer sitting on blocks :)

When I was a lowly engineering coop student at GM, I actually built one of these things from scratch. Unfortunately, I did not have much money, and I did not own a T/A. So what did I do? I put it on my '74 Plymouth Valient. I still remember the circuit well. I used a TTL 74154 4/16 line decoder which fed sixteen power transistors that drove the sixteen turn signal lamps. The array of lights was about 16" long, and I mounted them on a piece of wood. The circuit itself was mounted in a plastic box that was sealed to keep water out. I mounted the whole thing behind the grille of my Valient, so it was completely hidden durning the day. But at night - it was quite cool.

I had plans to modify the circuit to use the engine RPM to clock the TTL circuit, thus the "scanning" of the lights would follow the RPM of the motor. However, I sold the car (with the circuit) before this mod could be done. I remember bringing in the circuit to GM's vehicle engineering center and showing it to a couple of engineers - got a few laughs and pats on the back. This actually inspired another student to have built (on GM time) a much more professional looking version that he put in his Camaro.

Nice thread - brings back a lot of memories. :)

Just remember to have your seats double deep so you can fit the guy in it that is actually driving the car.

whoa just got to thinking....

If K.I.T.T were to take on the Batmobile which car would win?
How about between the Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit and the Dukes of Hazard's General Lee
The car from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Herby the bug?
Hasselhoffs' mullet vs. Mcguyvers' mullet?

.....whoa......

My advice would be to forget about it until you get your license and then you'll probably grow out of it by then.
