The reliability ratings for the car are average (not bad, but not great), but keep in mind that this is a new '07 model. Since these cars are new, nobody really knows for certain.

How was the size? A Cooper S looks like so much fun to drive, but given that I'm 6'2" I'd always thought there'd be no way I'd fit in it.

You'll probably fit. The Mini dealer was easily 6 feet tall, and he fit inside with no problems.

The back seat is a different story, though :)

We had two MINIs. Both had little issues like rattles and such, but no major issues.

This is the most I have ever heard from a MINI owner, too.

My wife and I have a '06 Mini Cooper Convertible (non-S). There was a rattling sound from the engine compartment during idle. I have no idea what exactly was wrong since my wife brought it there and picked it up. They were very vague with the description of the problem, but they took care of it without a hitch and put us in a loaner for free.

We also had a couple problems with some plastic interior pieces (left front speaker cover and driver-side armrest), but everything has been taken care of without trouble under warranty.

Edit: I'll link to a forum thread on the Mini Owner's network that pretty accurately described the problem....but it seems you have to be registered (dunno if it's possible without owning a mini).

anyway here's the link: http://on.miniusa.com/thread.jsp?forum=31&thread=600008344

Utter effing FUD. Has the first year of the 335 been bad? it's not up yet but I don't hear anyone moaning.

The 1.6L turbo motor in the Mini is shared with the PSA group, if you worried about reliability...this may not help, as that is the Peugeot/Citroen group.

Click 'Performance' link.

Uh actually the 335 has had all sorts of issues due to the lack of oil cooler on the non-sport models...among other things.

Read up on some of the issues those have had.

Link me. The burden to prove the statement is upon you.

I have heard the same, all sorts of problems.

I wanted to, but the BMW MINI dealer is 25-30 miles away, and the traffic is crazy this weekend, so I wouldn't have gotten a good test drive. I want to go next weekend with a friend who's a MINI fan and drives his brother's 2004 Cooper S often.

Do you think this generation will be more reliable or less reliable than the old ones?

Try the North American Motoring Forums

An entire forum about the MINI. I have an '06 Cooper S and am thinking of trading it in or selling it and getting an '07. The new one has a lot more power apparently and some other nice updates, though mostly I'm more interested in the new turbo-charged engine and it's tweakability =)

I'm sure they are a blast to drive and I have heard from many reviews they are but damn it's like a guy driving a New Beetle, you must turn in your man card.

Has anyone heard about any transmission problems with the new Mini? I've heard that the CVT automatic transmission in the 2002/2003 models was garbage, but I haven't heard about any recent problems.

A friend has a Mini S, forget what year but she has yet to have any major issues that were not caused by her or lack of maintenance.

I'm thinking about getting a regular 2007 Mini Cooper. They are a blast to drive and they look awesome.

I'd like to know how the difference between the SuperCharged and the Turbo Charged ones are.
