YACT: Maxima or IS300?

teh Macksima

teh Lecksus

Maxima - 6 speed, 265hp.

IS300 - 5 speed, 215hp.

Need results by 1000, going car shopping with $23k in savings.

EDIT: My dad has a 2001 Maxima 6 speed.

It feels fast as hell even with only 222hp. 43 extra HP should make for a funner ride.

Anyone know the 1/4 mile times?

EDIT2: Just noticed that it's 800 miles away from me.

Poll extended to Friday night, as I'm going on a road trip to Texas then.

let me know what's wrong with that is300 -- i was actually looking at that same one a few days ago, but the REALLY low price had me wondering wtf's going on...

if nothing's wrong with it, and you don't want it, tell me so I can snatch it up! 😀

id go with the lexus even though the maxima has a nicer interior and is faster... mainly cause of price... no need to blow out all your savings... the lexus is an awesome ride too

Lexus for the simple fact that it's RWD

but OP lives in illinois, he might be stuck with snowstorms so i believe fwd is the best choice.

My mom used to drive a Volvo Stationwagon brick on wheels that was RWD and didn't have issues in Illinois, Peoria to be exact

2001 Maximas don't have 6-speeds. That came with the 2002, which also has the 3.5L V-6.

<------ Drives a 2001 Maxima SE with 5-speed. Would probably, given the choice, trade it for an IS300 with stick, for a variety of reasons.

The IS would turn circles around the maxima, but the max would leave it behind in a straight line.

I believe the newer body style Maximas run a mid to high 14 in the 1/4. Not very sure about it. The IS will run a low 15.

It really depends on your driving style. The Maxima will be a better cruiser on the highway, the Lexus would be better around town imo.

Friggin' everyone around here drives either a maxima or an altima. So because of that I'll get the Lexus and also because its more prestigous.
