Knocking: This noise generally is heard when the engine is under load, such as when accelerating or climbing a hill. While it often may be caused by a tankful of inferior gas, ignition knock frequently is a sign your engine needs attention. It also can be caused by a build-up of carbon inside the engine.

Late model cars are equipped with a knock sensor which "hears" the sound and makes corrective adjustments. But it cannot compensate for a severe malfunction, a condition which can affect engine performance, even damage the engine.

going up on 1st = sounds like a ricer showing off his Honda
going up on 2nd = when you encounter a situation which you have to give the gas even a slight push, it sounds like a Cummins turbodiesel.

A little clearer?

2nd gear + a lil faster than 25 to get rid of the 'cluttering'

but from your choice = 1st gear!

btw your car sucks 😛

1. isn't hurting your engine even if you get embarassed by the funny looks people give you. 2. is pounding the sh!t out of your bearings

why even change "gears" on an auto car? you really don't need to...at least i haven't in any of the cars i've driven...

and man, i never knew that "cluttering" was bad for the engine...just got my first stickshift a little over a month ago and i've made the engine "clutter" more than a few times (in an effort to avoid burning the clutch up)...

Automatic doesn't downshift on descend and if you don't force it into lower gears manually, you will be riding your brakes and you might fade them.

Drive a different way or leave it in first. Next time you buy a car test it on that specific road to see if you get fuzzy warm feelings.

cluttering=knocking as i understand it...just try going up a longish hill in too high a gear and you'll hear it...very, very bad for your engine, when you hear that noise you are knocking the hell out of the big ends i think...

I call it lugging the engine but what do I know...

5k on a 6.7k redline wont hurt it but Id use second and do 30 uphill. downhill Id prolly use 1st though, if your car as that wimpy you brakes are probaby tiny and will overheat and warp fast.

Lugging/bogging/pinging as bad for your engine.
