233lb-ft is plenty for the weight of the vehicle with a 6-speed to keep the revs up. that's the base model.

Actually if you look at the torque curve it's brickwall flat across then entire RPM range. Plenty of torque at 1500/2000. I can motor around at 30 mph in 4th and still have good pickup.

I have a 2006 TSX 6 MT. It has about 4 track days (buttonwillow and Laguna Seca) on it so far. Really really Great transmission (super smooth), but not alot of torque as has been stated (166 / 205). Handling is good for a car in its price range that is more lux than sport (IE GTI or WRX), but the stock tires are HORRID.

Anyway, the TSX doesn't have an LSD like the TL-S, though its price with nav can be had at 28K (they will sell at invoice). So for another 7K for the TL-S, there are plenty of other options. Try them all!

Poll speaks for itself. I still say this forum is terrible to get car advice from, but was pleasantly surprised with the MT enthusiasts.

As others stated, even if you wanted an auto transmission, it has a bad torque converter (slushbox), and the reliability is not Honda status on them. Also, MT makes driving much more enjoyable IMO.

What is the power of the TL these days anyway? I thought they were supposed to have 270HP but does the new SAE standard reduce the number?

258HP and 233 lb/ft of torque with the new SAE standard. The new TL-S has 286HP and 256 lb/ft of torque.

Surely you are joking. TL is one of the roomiest sedans, and that's why we got it.

I'm thinking it's too big for me (I'm only 16, almost 17, and I wanted a nimble, small, car [sick of the Toyota Tundra that I'm giving to my brother]), but it's just so much value for the money.

Then why aren't you(r parents) looking at a TSX?

I would much rather get a Mazdaspeed3 if I was looking at a 4 banger, or maybe even a Civic Si.

for reference, the base TL makes more WHP/torque than the NSX everywhere under 6000 rpms.

and the type s is even stronger than that.

that is a road course article on the type-s

The problem with that much power through the front wheels is torque steer, of course. Is this really a problem with TL's?

it's a moderate problem, but in my experience it's mainly apparent when you hammer it at low speeds on bad pavement.

It is nowhere near as bad as say a toyota avalon, which is of similar power/fwd also.

I don't think it'll be an issue for the most part.

Here on AT the manual will win this poll going away ... out there in reality people want an automatic.

Personally I enjoy driving a stick a lot more, but considering the daily miles of traffic that make up 98% of my driving milage I'd only choose one as a second vehicle.

This car won't be seeing even 10% of freeway driving. Most of my driving will be to school and back, around town, to friend's houses, etc.

In that case go for the manual ... like I said the only reason I drive an auto is miles of bumper-to-bumper traffic & the rusty-hinge effect it has on my left knee! :p

I would imagine the foot-ton of torque helps with that. ;)

My dad is like you. He drives about 40 miles to work and 40 miles back four times a week. He is Greek, and lived in Greece until he was in his late 20's. Of course he knows how to drive a stick (everyone drives manual in Europe), but he said he would HATE his daily drive with a MT. He drives a 2007 V6 Toyota Camry 6AT right now, which is a bit too cushy and boaty IMO, but perfect for his age. He told me if his drive was all city, he would drive manual (much more fun).
