We researched into Mark VIIIs as well ( I think I had a post about them), and they have insanely expensive repair costs. They have an air suspension (which lowers the car when you go above 70mph) that is known to fail and has to be replaced. Its around $500 per WHEEL to replace!!! That just turned us off on the car.
You're forgetting the aftermarket equipment available to domestics:

Towncar rear air spring assembly
  • This new air spring assembly is manufactured from 100% new material. This heavy duty air spring is backed with the longest warranty in the industry.

    3 year/36,000 Mile warranty.
(3 times the warranty offered on new OEM parts) $89.00
Or simply replace the air spring with a conventional spring. I was concerned about this, too. No more!

Hell, the only 'old person car' I wouldn't leap at would be an olds.

Caddy, Lincoln, Crown Vic, Grand Marquis . . . I'd take any of those in a heartbeat. And a nice used beamer, of course.

What I really, really want is a giant Caddy convertable, real shiny black paint job, and fins. I would love that car forever . . . bench seats front and back are a must, tho.
