I voted CR-V but really they're both about the same quality wise. Get whichever you two find more practical/attractive.

How many kids ? Future plans ? The Element is a 4-seater, not even 5.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't know the Element only sat 4. Rules that one out then.

I have two kids and a dog. I currently drive a Durango, wife has a small 4 seater. My Durango gets all the miles because it's more comfortable. I want a reliable, comfortable vehicle that seats 5 at least, has enough room for weekend trips, and gets good gas mileage.

the honda pilot isn't a bad choice, has a smooth ride and is relatively fuel efficient. (room for 8 w/ fold down back seat) 4WD V6 engine ~250hp. little pricier than than the element and crv though.

they both suck. The cr-v gets terrible gas mileage for the size/engine it has, and the element isn't much better

if you're not concerned about that, the cr-v's are very nice

How come you're set on a SUV. Safety concerns? Cargo space? How about a nice accord/camry.

Create a new thread with your two poll choices as Subaru Forrester or Honda Pilot

My gf was looking at the CR-V (because of its milage) but after driving one it seemed like a waste of $20k. Not that it wasn't good, but because it was just so.. plain. It felt like after a week of owning it, it would be "just another car."

The pilot on the other hand seemed a good bit nicer... just felt more like a 'new car'. You can talk a dealer down to $24,500 on the base pilot, or apparently about $29,500 on the loaded leather pilot.

Of course, the pilot gets significantly worse milage.. but it did seem like a more satisfying purchase. Either way the resale value is retarded, I wanted her to look at 2-3 year old models, but they were asking $21,000-$23,000 for them, which is stupid expensive.

Gas mileage is one reason I was considering those. She gets ~30 mpg right now, I get 15. She puts ~8k miles/year, I do ~22k/year. Hondas have a good resale and are reliable which is one reason I started looking at these. She's expressed interest in the CRV and the $$ is right for either one. The RAV 4 seems to run about $3k higher. It doesn't have to be a SUV, just comfortable for me. We're going tonight to start the looking. While we're at the Honda dealer, we'll check out the new/used Accords and Pilots. A new Pilot would be out of her price range though.
