YACT: Look into the future; What car should I buy in 2007?

I've been looking at buying a used MR2, 35 mpg, handles like a Boxter, you could pick up a used 03'-05' (last model year) for ~50% of the asking price in 07'

Not a lot of HP, but also not a Miata (where you'd see yourself coming & going every time you drove it).

What do you want to do with your new car?

If I wanted a nimble roadster, I'd probably just hold on to the S until 2007. 🙂 Just because it's faster and Honda's less likely to redesign it than Toyota is with the MR2 Spyder

As for what I want to "do" with this new car, I won't do anything much out of the ordinary with it. It'll just be my primary car for going back and forth to work/school, getting groceries and what-not. Might take it on long road trips now and then or up to the mountains during snowboarding season.

Basically, here's what my cars have looked like up to this point:

Fun - *******************
Utility - *
Cost of gas/insurance - *

While "utility" is a pretty vague term, I'm thinking growing older means I'll need more of it...whatever it is

Duh, forgot what you already owned, definitely S2000>MR2

Crap...very tempted right now by the Chevy Colorado. The I5, extended cab version can be had for $16.5k right now because of rebates good until the end of this month...

But this would throw off my whole schedule 🙁

Alright, that bout of crazy has subsided after being only semi-impressed at the dealership. I've decided that if I'm gonna get anything before 2007, it'll be a bike as those seem less prone to depreciation and drastic redesigns

BTW, if I were to wait until 2007, would I be able to purchase a finally redesigned Ford Ranger? 🙂

Didn't even notice this.

No, I'm neither of those...instead, option C: overly idealistic

in 2003 i got a 1998 taurus (5 years old)
in 2006 i plan on getting a 2002 taurus (4 years old)
and in 2009 a 2006 bull (hopefully they are still making them) 😀

i believe that 2005 is the last year for the taurus. it should be completely replaced by the 500 by 2006.

Altima Hybrid or SE-R
The Altima Hybrid seems tempting from what I've read...I've been wondering when someone would use a hybrid engine for speed rather than sensibility 🙂
