YACT: Is this a sign of transmission going bad?

This has never happened before, only until about 2 months ago that I started noticing it. Does the transmission shift gear back after I leave my foot off the gas pedal? THe problem is that now I hear a "thumb" sound coming from transmission at about 1 second after I leave my foot off the gas pedal. What do you guys think of possible cause for it? The dealer recommended a transmission flush 2 months ago that I ignored. Should I do it now? Is it going to help?

I'm sorry...but...I'm sorta confused by what you wrote. It doesn't really make sense.

Does the engine rev up then the gear engages? You might need to have some one look at the torque converter.

Hmm...

I think is what you're trying to say is that.. when you step on the gas, it shifts.. and you now notice a sudden thump momentarily after it shifts?

Hmm.. I'm not really sure.. the problem is too vague, heh.

I'm not sure what the *first* signs of an auto tranny going out are. I kinda always just figured slippage, I guess. Is that what it feels like? You step on the gas, the engine revs.. and then a second later it goes thump and you feel the acceleration?

It could be a tranny mount that is wearing out and something is bumping something else.

Or

Maybe the lock-up converter is failing and the thumping could be it locking and unlocking.

Or

I could be totally wrong.

I don't know what goes on in a transmission. I have my car done at dealer all the time, they are supposed to take care of it.

The car has 77k right now.

It looks the same to me.. :p

Still just as confusing.

I don't understand if you're asking a question or making a statement. And, I don't know if you mean you're taking your foot OFF the accelerator or keeping it on it??

That's your problem, you trusted a dealership.

Never, never take your car to a dealer except for warranty work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think we could find a way to keep that docked at the bottom of the screen, kinda like the 'quick reply' feature?

flush the tranny, maybe the old fluid is making the valvebody act funny, making shifts harder.
Again, flush the tranny It's cheap. You may want to install an extra auto tranny cooler if you are really paranoid.

What is the difference? What other kind of oil runs in a transmission? Cause I know the dealer change transmission oil regularly on my car.

honda transmission fluid runs in your transmission. it's the engine oil that gets changed every 3000 miles/5000 km and the transmission fluid is supposed to be changed like every 30,000 miles.

You get a thump sound after you take your foot off the gas? So, you are just crusing along at 55, and when you take your foot off the gas you get a thump? I don't understand the "for one second" thing. Is it just one sound, or does it continue for a second? (a second is a long time actually. watch your second hand on your watch.)

I hear the thump sound at approximately 1 second after I leave the foot off the pedal.

So by flushing you mean just changing transmission fluid? The dealer told me differently though.

flushing is different than just changing it, technically, but either service should have been performed on a regular schedule at least once or twice.

Why don't you check the tranny fluid. There is a dipstick for it. It should have a rozy color and not very sticky (soak up on a paper napkin)
The tranny fluid runs in tranny and valvebody, which controls the shifts. So bad fluid will effect not only the cooling/lubrication, but also the control.
