I'm in need of a car and I was offered a 91 Accord 4-door EX model with 102k miles. Automatic, power windows, power door locks, AC, cassette. All for $3500 out the door.

I check Edmunds for the specific model and the link shows various prices. Is there anything I should know before I make this purchase?

EDIT: It's an LX model

Is the word Accord on the back of the auto in gold or silver?

If you're in socal I might be able to look it over for you. I have one and have taken most of it apart at one time or another. Basically, a 91 is a solid year. No major problem areas that I know of, only a few well known minor ones (distributor/coil and main relay). Mine has been nearly perfect. I think the auto trannys are good to as long as the fluid was changed regularly(no filters so it should be changed about ever 30k). I would hope the timing belt has been changed by 100k but never make any assumptions. Uhm......

EDIT: $3500 is prolly a fair price if its in decent shape.

Thanks for the info guys. I checked out the car today and it's in pretty good condition. It's been detailed and the timing belt was just changed last Oct. Smogged and has 2003 registration sticker. Also is coming with an alarm system.

KK, the word Accord in the back is silver I believe.

NutBucket, I appreciate you offering your experience with this particular make, year and model. It looks like I'm going to purchase it. BTW, found out that it's the LX model.

Looks like you got yourself a solid car. To those saying its expensive, if its in good shape then $3500 is fine considering 100k is "low" mileage for 11-12 year old car. Mechanically the car is fine for at least another 100k, even if the sh*t was driven out of it for the first 100k.

The only real reliability issue on Accords of that vintage is that they rust out like there's no tomorrow. Since he's in California, that pretty much eliminates the rust problems. I think he's found a good car at a fair price too.

Thanks again guys for your input, it really helped me make the final decision to buy the car. The car is now sitting in my parking space :)
