I know it's out of your price range, OP.

I can afford it, but I'd rather not sepnd the extra 5k.

I don't ever want to own a turbo car again. I don't like using premium gas and i hate waiting the minute for the turbo to cool off before turning off the car after a hard run. I know I can get a turbo timer, but I don't want any after market mods.

thats a "chick who likes other chicks" car (factory equipped with rainbow stickers, from what I've seen on the roads)

I go skiing quite often and Foresters (and other Subarus) are popular in the mountains. I have an older Forester.

It probably depends where you live on how people perceive the car. When I see a Forester, I think it's either driven by a middle-aged Asian lady or a ski/snowboard/active lifestyle enthusiast.

Just test-drove a non-turbo Forester the other day. Here in the Pacific NW, Subarus are extremely common and I don't think the Forester has the "lesbian" stigma it might have elsewhere.

Anyway, I really liked the car, it's lighter and shorter than most other compact SUVs since it's based on the Impreza chassis. This allows it to get pretty good gas mileage considering it's AWD, and it felt more nimble and just as peppy as the CR-V and I4 RAV4 that I tested. Plus it has great visibility, it's reliable, safe, has good cargo space, a well-designed interior, and a number of thoughtful features inside (the giant moonroof is nice too). The only downsides IMO: the road noise was definitely more intrusive than it was in the Outback I also drove, the rear seat is somewhat cramped, and I don't love the exterior styling.

Overall, it's an incredibly practical vehicle and I would have no problem driving one.

Considering the significant amount of people on here who openly admit to driving or wanting to drive a Miata, that kinda rules out any vehicle talked about on here as being classified as a girls car.
