YACT - Is the 3-month/3000mi oil change schedule a marketing ploy?

I haven't change my oil in over a year now so about 6K miles or more. Still running! No issues. I check it now and then to make sure it's up and I only needed to add a quart total.

I have a 96 Chev Cav with 114K miles.

Yes, it's BS. 5000 miles minimum for any street car is just fine. 7500 is more reasonable.

In fact, I have NEVER seized an engine in any of my cars over the past 20 years, and I have never changed the oil at 3000 unless paid for by the dealership as part of a free service plan. I average 7000 miles between changes. I've never had an engine die due to an oil related problem. I've had electrical problems and tranny problems, but never anything wrong with an engine.

BTW, my work beater, a 97 Mazda 626 LX has over 220,000 miles on it. The engine is great but due to cheap Ford trannies, it's on it's second tranny.

yup, I drove 172 miles today, and this was a slow day. of course I don't usually drive much on the weekends. I average anywhere from 1000-1500 miles a week.

heh i had a old Honda accord with 100k miles. I put about another 50k (in about a years time) miles and NEVER changed the oil. it still ran great! of course i had to put some in but that was all. I kinda feel sorry to the sucker that bought it (heh i paid $50 for the car sold it for $400)
