Just an FYI- If you do not have enough coolant in your engine, the temp. sensor will not register it because there is no coolant flowing past, and your temp. gauge will start dropping.. Have you checked your coolant? This happened to my Jeep once.

Your thermostat has stuck open. Replace it. Drain collant about 1/2 gallon. Pop top hose, and the bolts that hold the neck on. then swap in the thermostat. Don't install it upside down or it will not open.

As a few (disturbingly few) people have noted, running too cold will reduce fuel economy amoung other things. Newer engines are designed to be run in the 180-210 range. To reduce knock with higher performace engines, a lower temp thermostat will be swapped in, but those are usually in the 160-170 range. Going much cooler doesn't help power at all.

drats i got to get the thing fixed. Unfortunatley i cant tommorow or on monday ( i need the car on monday - unless i go early on monday morning to pepboys and drop off the car there for a thermostat change). I cant do it by mseylf because i dont have the tools with me. Also i got to take the freaking ignition coil off the block, the airbox and something else before i can get to the thermostat. Its not easy on my car.

yet another reason i wont own another Ford  Get an estimate from pep boys before leaving it there, otherwise they are likely to rake you over the coals. Make sure you are only paying for a thermostat, labor to change it , coolant , and any enviromental fees asociated with disposal of the old coolant. Dont let them make you pay for extra crap you dont need.
