YACT: How to dispose of waste oil?

You guys have inspired me. I know it's not hard, but I've never done it and so I was wondering what you guys do with your waste oil.

AFAIK any place that sells oil have to take waste oil.

Pep Boys used to take it for free. Not sure about other auto stores.

Just bring to most any auto parts store and they have a place to dump it.

Most county landfills have recycling areas for old oil, and a few service stations will still let you dump.

On a similar note, I have some old gas in a 2.5 gallon tank I'd like to get rid of...any ideas on dumping that?

Garbage can + match.

Oil you can dump either down your street, or bring it to autozone and they'll take like 16-20 quarts max (can't remember which number), for free.

Just take it an auto parts store. If they don't take it, they are likely to know someone who does.

WTF! Your local garbage collection agency should have some sort of oil recycling program. Here in San Jose, they pick it up off the curb along with your garbage.

Pour small amounts a time into a flat pan, put it somewhere that animals can't get to it, and let it evaporate. Repeat as necessary.

Or you could call 1-800-RECYCLE to get disposal sites and instructions.

Advance, AutoZone, etc.... take old oil and batteries.

Anti Freeze you can pour down your drain (IN your house) if you are on a treated city/town water supply system.

It's probably not the best way, but your might be able to pour a tiny bit in with your gas when you fill up.

I'm talking, like, 1/4 gallon...

I know the auto freaks here are going to yell at me, but on a fill up, it will dillute enough to be fine.

Just make sure it isn't lawn mower gas with the engine oil in it.
