YACT: How much would this cost?

Supposing I bought a crappy old Civic hatchback for $700 and swapped in a B16 engine and added:

intake
injectors
exhaust system
brakes
clutch
suspension
wheels and tires
misc other performance parts

I would be doing little if any of the work, btw...

I would also have to go to work on the interior. Maybe I should call Xibit...

I know the answer to this is anywhere from $1000 to $100000 depending on how far to take it, but if I just wanted to get solid upgraded parts to make a fast little go cart, how mauch are we talking?

I guess a better way to ask is how much could I get done for <$7000 on top of the original price of the car?

 

If you really want to make it a sleeper, save some money on rims and just get some black or silver steelies.

Steelies are the choice of ricers these days. They also look extremely lame on most modern cars and are heavy. Stock alloys would be the way to go.

have you considered a B18 swap? Also, for wheels, Gram Lights would be sweet because they're extremely light.

I'd consider a B69 swap if it was a wise choice... I know nothing about Honda engine codes other than the B16 is a common swap and lots of after market parts exist for it...

If you do all your own work, you can probably get it done for around 5k or so for a mild build. Honda engines are not expensive any more and there is an abundance of used parts for things like intake, headers and exhaust.

Visit honda-tech.com, that's pretty much the least riciest and most serious honda tuner site I've seen yet. After I buy my first property, I think this will be my next pet project.

You should go for a H22 swap. The engine wouldn't be that much more and you'll easily run 13's

intake -- <$100
injectors -- why?
exhaust system -- ~$600
brakes -- <$1000
clutch -- <$400
suspension -- <$600
wheels and tires -- ~$1100
misc other performance parts

Figure somewhere between $1200 -- $2000 for a motor ($3-400 for mounts), well, you'll want an LSD so an extra $300 for that as well.

I think you can manage under $7k. I'm pretty sure I didn't spend that much on the Accord tho I didn't upgrade the brakes (yet?).

EDIT: Here's a real challenge. Convert the Civic to use this drivetrain

Why bother? I think you could get a H22 to run 12's without one or nitrous.

See my sig Its an engine used in Preludes and Japanese/Euro market Accords. More power/torque the a B16/B18 and cheaper then the latter.

You have to do a custom install on the shifter; Hasport makes mount brackets.

Well, I worked up a budget:

Car: 92-95 Civic Coupe $2500

Engine option 1: 200HP H22A $2800
(requires engine mounts and custom shift linkage)
Engine Option 2: rebuild stock and add turbo $3300
Transmission: new flywheel, clutch &amp; LSD $900
Suspension: Adjustable Coilovers $700
Brakes: new rotors, calipers and braided lines $1000
Exhaust: high flow no-fart cat back $600
Wheels and tires: $1000

Optional stuff:
Exterior: new lights &amp; paint $800
Interior: uphostelry, carpet, sound insulation $1000
Engine compartment: clean &amp; paint $200 (assuming engine is already out)
Stereo: replace head unit and speakers ($600)

The all out car with the H22A option would be: $9500 before any optional stuff was done. The Turbo set-up would be over $10K.

So, $9500 gets me a fast little coupe (22% higher power to weight ration than my SVT Contour) that will be very reliable but cosmetically me be suspect and might have some of the rattles a 10 year old car is likely to develop.

If I am to go forward with this, I will seriously have to balance the joy of selecting each piece of the car with the benefit of buying a previously modded vehicle off someone else at a massive discount...
