I would not get the boot replaced. It is usually not much more to just replace the whole axle. Also if you replace the boot, the axle could still go at any time.
So I would do this, drive it until the cv joint starts clicking loudly around sharp corners. This could take months or years. It is safe and the axle will not just break one day. It takes weeks-months to break from the time you hear the clicking. Then I would pay to have the axle replaced.
To help extend the life of the cv joint you could use some good quality silicone to patch up the boot. The cv boot serves no purpose other than to keep the joint clean.
