YACT: How much should this all cost?

Got new shocks for my car. Didn't want to put them on myself. Brought my car into the shop and they told me $245 for the front and $245 for the back. I also needed new brakes but he told me the rotors are too groved and will need to be resurfaced. $275 front + $275 back. Holy sh|t. Am I getting rapped or does this sound reasonable? I think I'm gonna try to get them to only put new pads on. If they don't I'll just put them on myself.

what shocks did you get

or does the 490 include the shocks.

upgrade your rotors as well, its not too difficult to do either, ive done both shocks and brakes.

wow that sounds high.

changing pads and rotors is easy. Heck i did them on my wife's car over the summer. it cost me like $95 for pads, rotors and a tie rod!

Both of those jobs are incredibly easy - even for a newbie as long as you aren't afraid of a wrench.

If you're afraid to rent a spring compressor for your struts (I am), just have the shop assemble the struts for you for a minimal fee.

struts are definitely easy.. did them on my Neon with a friend.. very easy, power tools help (air guns) but not needed. took about an hour for the 2 rear struts to be swapped.

The shocks may or may not be a bitch to uninstall/install so I'd give them the benefit of the doubt of a two man job so the price can be justified, but the brake job is overpriced imo.

Yeah, does that include parts? My shocks are about $90 each so $245 for a pair installed sounds like a deal😛😉 If that's just for OE shocks fvck that. Get some real shocks on that Miata.

First of all, what kind of car is it?
4 wheel discs or drums in rear?

You're definitely getting ripped off on the brake job regardless.
Brand new rotors cost only $50 for a pair, sometimes less.
Why resurface for $550? Just get new ones and change them AND the pads yourself.

And I sure hope the $490 includes the price of shocks (which I doubt) because if it doesn't, you are totally getting ripped.

Wait, this work is for the Miata in your sig?
How do you do all that work to it and not know the cost of these basic services?
