YACT: How long to wait before waxing new car?

My parents just bought a new Sienna. My dad wants to wax it to help keep the bugs off, but I've heard that you should wait a month or so before waxing it.

A. Is there any truth to this?
B. if there is, then is 1mo the right timeframe? Why the wait?

Also, the owner's manual says nothing about waiting before waxing.
 
It probably came with a dealer installed sealant of some sort. I would wait 6 months to wax it assuming you wash it regularly.
 
I think that advice applies to cars with a fresh paint job that wasn't cured after the paint was applied. If curing was part of the process then you don't have to wait before applying wax, AFAIK.
 
I don't think there's any problem with waxing a new car. It's usually a baked-on finish, as compared to a sprayed-on finish when you repaint a car. THOSE you need to allow a couple of months to totally cure before waxing...when in doubt, ask the service department at your local dealership...or check your owner's manual.
 
My Sienna has lots of paint problems. Besides the orang peel, My sliding doors hit the body just as they close and are chipping the paint off, and I have a big chip missing near the chrome on the drivers door. Toyota is going to be repainting it. I did have mine fully detailed recently, and man it looked better than new. Polished with Meguiars 83, and then #21 sealer.

What color did you get? My 2005 is that dark blue, and so is the 2007 we ordered.
 
You're probably fine to wax it right away. The car is atleast a few weeks old by the time you've bought it, and the paints at the factory are baked on.

It's had plenty of time to cure.

It's not my car, it belongs to my parents. It's a 2007 Sienna XLE Limited. It's Arctic Frost Pearl in color.
 
Check the mfg date on the tafg on the drivers door. If it's less than 6 months I have been told you should wait.
 
Personally I would clay it as well,so the wax lasts longer and gives you an ultra smooth finish, then put a couple of coats of your favorite wax on the car.
 
You should be good to wax it right off the dealership lot unless they apply that undercoating stuff they offer. They bake the paint before assembling the interior and parts. If your car was re-painted they recommend waiting 30 days to allow curing since they can't bake the paint without the plastic stuff melting.

If you don't feel comfortable you can always use a claybar and a glaze to make it shine you just won't have any protection.
 
OP, I recently had a trailer fall on my car in the garage when I was visiting my parents. It left two 3-6" dents on the rear QP. I took it back to the dealer, and they had to remove the entire panel, which ran to the front of the car, and strip all the paint, fix the dents, paint it again at the factory, and then put it back on.

They said no wax for sixty days, so that's what I'd go by.
