Quick look at the 5 and it doesn't have towing recommended unless you get the European version with a different engine , then it has up to 1400KG with a electric braking system

I want to like the 5. I really do. But it's gas milage is worse than many V6 powered vehicle larger than it.
 
I wouldn't bother with the Ford Escape Hybrid. The gas savings arn't worth the added cost. I would get the Mazda Tribute over the normal Ford Escape. That new Toyota SUV that is a copy of the Element looks cool.
 
Thanks for the suggestions. Any auto makers giving away free (or low %) money? I'd hate to have my folks cash out investments if they can get an auto loan at 1.9%
