I have a 1999 honda accord lx coupe thats been sitting for quite a while (Ill say bout 4-5 months)

I was able to start it last week, however I tried starting it today but the engine wont start, there is the usual starting sound, but the engine just does not "fire" up...
The battery is not dead since the alarm is still running.

whats wrong?? PLEASE HELP!!

EDIT: also I accidentally triggered the alarm (opened the trunk without turning off the alarm first), can this be the cause??? is there like a alarm thingy so the car cannot be started?? the alarm is OEM honda alarm btw

EDIT2:

OK now I know its the battery problem...
I tried jump starting the car, it turned on for a moment then it died down again... so this is a battery problem rite??
how hard is it to change the battery on ur own?? can I do this?? do I need any special tools??

Was the car sitting outside? Could be that the old gasoline is causing a problem with the car.

You should try to put some stuff called "Heet" in it. It's basically alcohol, but it's gets rid of any water that is in the fuel. Also there is a product for gas mowers and other small engines that is called "Renew U" or something like that that is made especially for old gas that has sat for an extended period of it.

Try to disarm, arm, and disarm the alarm, then try to start it again. Also, is there an anti-theft transponder "chip" in the key? Are you using an original key, or a copy?

but if the engine immobilizer is turned on, I shouldnt be able to hear the starting sound right?? so the problem lies somwhere else??

EDIT: Im using the orginal key

turn the key on, then off, then on then off a few times(not to START, just to the position it would be in when you're driving) to prime the fuel pump. then try to start and see if that helps

You might have to siphon (sp?) the fuel out with a tube or hose and put some new fuel in.

HEET might do the trick as well.

Wow, i'm surprised to hear that happening to a Honda that new. I've got a '94 GMC Jimmy that had been sitting for about 5 months. Fired right up when I went to pick it up. Ran pretty damn rough, but she fired ok.

Don't think it's the gas though. Sounds like just got no spark. Could be distributor maybe? I was having starting/ignition probs a while back on my '95 accord. Was told to check spark, pull one of the plug wires off the spark plug. Place a (plastic handled) screw driver about 1/4" from the socket of the wire. shut off your garage lights and either have some one watch or crank the ignition while you watch. See if there is any spark jumping from the socket to the screw driver.

Uhhh...you serious???? Black to black, red to red. Start jump(er) car, start your car. Once running, disconnect cables. Let run to charge battery.

If the immobilizer is active, it could go either way, the starter might turn, or not, depending on how the particular immobilizer works. When I was working for Nissan, I found that if a Nissan immobilizer was tripped, the starter would crank and crank, but the engine would never start.

I think its the battery problem.. not the immobilizer

I've always connected the black cable on the dead car to ground. You don't need sparks around the battery. As far as charging the battery you can either get a battery charger and leave it on overnight, or jump the car again but leave the good car running and the cables connected for at least 10 minutes before attempting to start it.
