I would take the used car. Unless there is a lot of miles, that is what I would get. A new car is only new for so long.

The way he phrase it "old lexus" while you know that most of us can't afford it feels wrong.
If I have money to spend on my teenager's car, it will be the safest car there is.
Most teenagers can't drive squat and think with their you-know-what.
A safe conventional car is what they need, not a flashy sports car.
And 3 year old car is not "old" if taken car off.
Gee, how fast does car technology move ?
3 year from now they can fly ?

He is 15. I am not really sure he is tune with the real world enough to phrase the question in a soft way. I say give him a break. I haven't ever seen him act obnoxious.

Maybe he's 15 and doesn't want to be a 'man'... and enjoy his time while he still can.

Umm, I would take either and shut my complaining hole. I'm driving a 7 year old car that's made out of plastic (Saturns... gotta love 'em).

He's not complaining... he's asking for help in a decision.

Wow, some of you guys are bitter. You guys jealous he has parents that care for him more than yours?

I take issue with anyone who thinks showering your kids with money makes them "care." BS statement of the week.

thanks, millenium. sorry if i sounded a little harsh. i meant old lexus not as in old, bad car. but as in, a used car.
heres what im thinking so far, we were just discussing it.

if i take the 'used' es300, we wouldnt have a problem, after all, we are a family, and itd be an easy and trustworthy trade off. my dad told me hed definately feel more comfortable with me driving an es300, rather then say a sporty car. so heres what i have

pros: very nice first car, solves situation nicely, dad could drive a new luxury car for a few years then work something out later, shouldnt have a problem with the car because well-hes my dad, my brother can save a lot of trouble using my dad's camry

cons: 'older' car, es300 might not suit my taste as much (it doesnt much now, but i might change), automatic transmission (which again, doesnt suit my taste right now, but who knows) might not be as flashy as a new car

on the other hand, if we wait for him to buy me a new car down the line...

pros: new car, my choice (again, a preference advantage thing), save some initial $$$, warranty

cons: would mean my brother would have to seek out an alternative for the time being, new cars are only new for so long, insurance etc.

im very happy with both options i have, im just trying to see which one is better. like i said, my dad really doesnt care which one, because both will work, so hes letting me decide. im kind of leaning on buying the new car now, and then taking it later though. i think itd suit my dad better, because then hed be able to enjoy a new car earlier, and be easier on my brother too. And my preference for cars can definately sway over time. tomorrow we're going to go take a look at the lexus/acura.

Well, if it were me I would not get a car now, get a job, then when you have to go to college take your savings plus whatever money you need from your dad (up to the 20k he offered you) to get a car you like. You get a car you like and depending on how much the car you want is, the financial burden on your parents is lessened.

yea, you've got a real good point there. personally id rather depend on myself rather then my parents. not because of any pride issue, but because i want to make it easier on them. so what kind of jobs are there for 15 year olds in high school? perhaps the mall?

Jesus christ people. It's not like hes whining or anything, hes just asking if you had the option which would you choose. Typical ultra conservative cynical bitter fighting whities.

Me personally, I would take a low end luxury.

At 15 you could get a job working at a resturaunt or something, I'm sure your parents know people that could hook you up with a part time job. As far as the car thing goes, I would just wait for the ES300. It's a very nice car, should have a reliable engine, and has a lot of room for you and all your future college honies.

Between the Acura and the Lexus the 3.2TL would be a lot more fun, at least based on the reviews I've read.

That said, given the choice, I'd wait 3 years and buy something used with a manual transmission, maybe a BMW 325i. Don't forget, a lot of car companies have a certified pre-owned program where you can buy used AND get a warranty.

One of my friends drives a bmw x5, and goes cruising thru bahamas for spring break on their own boat. Hes a cool kid, hes just lucky.

Anyway id go for the ugly lexus for while and eventually sell it get something sporty :)
Im trying to get a 300zx by the end of the summer :)

take the es300 for the first couple years, and then get the 20K car. why? you've never driven before, you'd going to screw up your first car. it will happen.

You guys are pathetic. I suppose you don't like visiting the Hot Deals forum either and seeing people spend money on frivolous things.
