YACT: Has anyone here worked on a second gen MR2?

I've been thinking about getting one for a long time. They are still pretty expensive though so I was looking at getting one which needs work. There was one on ebay for only $2000 and the owner had taken out the engine to have rebuilt. He never got around to putting it back in and is selling it as is with the engine out of the car.

Basically I'm just wondering how hard they are to work on since they are mid engine. Anyone here have experence working on one? How accessable is the engine? How hard would it be to pull the engine?
 
never worked on one, but i know the engine has to be raised into the car, not dropped. definitely not an easy car to work on.
 
I?ve worked on a few MR2 vehicles and they are a bit of a pain to work on but not overwhelming. The engine comes out the bottom of the car with the rear sub-frame. You will need some way of supporting the body at least four feet off the ground for clearance. If you take your time and have a manual you should be just fine.

I have a 1st-gen. It's not too bad to work on, but I haven't had a chance to look at a Mk2 yet.

Turbo or non-turbo? What year and tranny? Approximate miles/condition? You'd be lucky to find a mostly intact parts car for that price..
 
Turbo or non-turbo? The non-turbo is relatively easy to work on. There's a lot of space in the engine bay, contrary to what others have said. If it's the turbo, then it becomes cramped. Accesibility is always a concern, but it isn't too bad if you have all the necessary tools and smallish hands.
