Why is everyone saying a $30,000 car is $600+ a month.

Price of car: $30,000
10% down = $3,000
Loan = $27,000
6 year-loan at 3.0% (This is what Nissan is offering for the Z)
= $410 a month.

5-year loan at 3.0% = $485

mainly becuase a 30k car ends up being nearly 32000 after tags, taxes, etc.. which brings the payments up to 521.09 with the 3k down... If you dont have 3k saved up to put down on a car right away -- 557.03 with 1000 down.

and this is assuming you've got no optoins on the car at all. the Z gets up in the 35,000 range really quick as soon as you put on any options.

so you got the base Z?

i've been looking at that - what doesnt it have that the other models do have? I've been trying to figure out how they cut 4k out of the car. Is it just really stripped down?

And the haters start to come out so they can voice their opinion. I love the car and hell you only live once. Enjoy life is what I say and I think it's a great car and investment.

I like it.

Enjoying life is hard if your wages are not great and you're stuck with your parents because you bought a nice car. This has happened to people - just trying to debunk the "only live once, so buy a big stupid car" idea :D In any case it's NOT a good investment!

Again that may not apply to the original poster, but it does to some people.

FWIW if I bought the 350 I'd get the base one too, stripped to the core.

Buying a car isn't a great investment. You are correct but the OP has stated that he has a good paying job and I think he lives at home. A $30k car isn't much money these days but it's all related to how much income a person makes. A $400 car payement for me would be crazy but to someone else it could be nothing serious.

BTW, I just found out that my ex-gf has a sports car and a SUV. Damn, I need to marry someone with money!

i think no matter what car i end up getting - it will be stripped to the core. It seems like thier are almost no options that are really worth getting in new cars.. except for some of the safety features.

Wasn't trying to hate - just trying to point out something that most people overlook. If you like to live your life in debt 'because you only live once' then by all means spend all the money you can.

i talked to the infiniti dealership today and they have a number of '04 g35 coupes that they're trying to get rid of now for 25k. I may decide to go that route if they have the model i want and the insurance is reasonable.

that's a nice blanket statement isn't it?

Damn nice car, but at 21 I'd be putting money into moving out of Mom/Dads house instead of a set of wheels.

But hey, that's just me.
